The Iraq War is now declared officially over...
All but 150 soldiers - said to be there to assist in arms sales to the Iraqi government- will be withdrawn by the end of the year.
Apparently no American troops will be based there long term.
Welcome back to all the troops who will now be home by Christmas or shortly there after.

It's way over due.It is just a cryin' shame to use and lose your sons and daughters to that mess by a misguided government.
Welcome home to all our military. A job well done.

You will see a civil war between sunni's and shia's, with the kurds holding on to their area. We will watch from the sidelines in Kuwait. The next bailout will be in Afghanistan with no final outcome there either. All our troops will finally get home, then downsizing will occur with no pension and no jobs available for those let go. Wait till you see the anger erupt from those who served but are now just another number in the unemployment statistics. PTSD fueled incidents and suicides to go along with the ever growing list of widows, children without both parents or those who survived but are maimed for life. A disgraceful outcome regardless of your political philosophy.

As much as I hate to say this and it's just my opinion (you know what those are like) I think we are doing this to gear up for Iran. We can't let them run the region un-checked. I see the "Support Israel" banner on this site. It makes perfect sense.

A "war" isn't really over until the losing side admits it is. Think April 9, 1865 or May 7, 1945.

Gee, and I thought that imperialist evil guy from that real big state with longhorn steers just wanted the oil. As far as I'm concerned we should own half those oil wells in Iraq and Kuwait and make those people pay our tab for freeing them. The fact that that hasn't happened makes us look like saps.
When we liberated Kuwait and all those oil rich people could get back to driving their Mercedes and Beamers to the malls again, couldn't they cut us a special oil deal? As far as I know, and I hope I'm wrong, Prez 41 didn't even get a quart of forty weight for that deal.

You are correct, no oil, just a lot of brave kids to bury and a lot of broken souls to heal!

Don't make this political.
Let's be glad our troops are out.
Period.
And to those troops-
THANKS.
Welcome back.
Well Done.

I hope those brave troops who died far from home, in the sand, can look down from heaven and say, we did good, and we won. I won't make a political comment per handejector.

I have always supported the troops and opposed trying to give Iraq "democracy"....not possible. Let them kill each other until they get tired of it. That's the only thing that will make it stop.
Now bring them all home from Afghanistan....that place is worse than Iraq.

A lot of American lives and limbs were given for people that don't deserve it. I really can't coment any further, my blood pressure will blow my head off. God bless and keep America, and our troops.

Why can't we mind our own business? Useless war. Only strengthened Iran. Lost and wounded a lot of good people for nothing.

To quote Mister X from JFK. "The organizing principle of any society is for war. The authority of the state over its people resides in its war powers." Every 20 years or earlier we have to have a war. As a professional soldier and there are many on here. We have to train our leaders in this environment. It's just how the world and economy roll. Sucks but true. Yeah I got friends who are screwed for life and dead. As long as we trust our leaders it is our chosen profession. At least it was mine. I spent my time in the sand and before that and loved it. I'm glad it's over for now. But it will not last. Best that has come out of all this is we have trained officers, senior NCO's and soldiers who know how to take the fight to the enemy. In the long run that's what it's all about. God Bless Them & All Of Us...

No I don't think that we would. It's too costly and we already have a presence in the region we can launch from. Like a cat and a mouse we would watch to see what Iran's next move would be.

I'm glad they are coming home too. I've always felt we should NEVER go to war unless we intend on winning it decisively and quickly, and KEEPING it all for America . . . the spoils AND the territory alike. Alas, we will never do this again around the world so . . .
Bring 'em home and keep 'em EMPLOYED . . . by manning our southern border and thus enforcing the laws of this country already on the books! We need their help down there!!!!!!!

And give them real bullets instead of refried beanbag guns like before. Especially since the cartels are now being armed fast and furiously by you know who.

You wonder what has been learned (or not learned) from all this. The price for it was awfully high.

At least some of the suffering in our military will end for a while. But as posted above, they will be back in harm's way when it suits Exxon or Haliburton.

It certainly would be great if the troops were home from all of the hundred-plus countries we have them in. It will never happen in our life-times. While I welcome home the returning troops, I hope that they are not just coming home to be sent to Africa where BHO deems our presence necessary now. Of course, it is just in "advisory" capacities.......
WWII ended over sixty-years ago and our people are still in Germany and Japan. Korea technically ended over fifty-years ago and we still have troops there. Let's hope we can at least divert returnees to our Southern border for deployment close to home......
It saddens me to see daily reports of young troops coming home to be buried. Yet, they all knew it may happen and I salute them for their service and being willing to sacrifice for our freedoms.
