Default My day with Jim Hoag...

So I finally got around to taking my Hi-Power in for a trigger job. C&S did the work some years back but it was so light it developed hammer follow and another smith dropped in a sear with no honing...so the pull is around 12 pounds, even without the mag safety. I called Jim yesterday and told him I wanted his 4.5# trigger. No problem, just bring it by. Beautiful day today so I took my bike across Mulholland Drive to Conoga Park. Figured I'd snap a pic for the story...

Got to the shop...very unassuming place...looks like a bunch of storage lockers with office doors next to them.

I step inside, no bell or anything to warn him...I can see he's tinkering at his bench. For some reason, I didn't want to yell out to him so I coughed loudly and he came out to the counter. We discussed the gun then another chap came in holding a familiar box. I asked him if it was a Kimber...he said yes. I asked why he brought it in...tells me he's having function issues...I ask him if it's a TLE...he says yes...ejection problems? Yes. Came in for the $95 reliability package. I told him mine had the same problems...but I'm gonna have a friend take a try at the ejector before brining it to the master.

Anyway...before I left, I needed to use the bathroom. I felt funny asking to go into his shop and Jim gruffed a bit, but said go on. So I got to see his inner sanctum...just a few benches with some gun parts scattered about. Still, I was glad I got to see it...kind of like visiting Santa's workshop...

Anyway, I couldn't leave with out a pic.

Neat! I'm glad that you know one of the masters and live near enough to be able to actually bring a gun to be fixed and visit a mite.

Cool story and pics. Amazing he's still in SoCal. Hardly a friendly environment for anything to do with guns.

Then again Austin Behlert was a Master and his shop was in northern NJ.

Couldn't see you feet in the photo - betting your wearing them fancy black sneakers when you ride your black scooter?? Remember to keep it up on both wheels at all times. Watch out for morons in pick'um up trucks as they like to hog the road!!

PS - looking at the color of those pipes, my guess is you have been exceeding the posted speed limit...be careful out there, big brother is watching.
