11-11-11 I remember...
1973- I raise a glass to the memory of Buzz, Harry, Chip, Cleo "the big Lonz," and SFC "Sgt. Ron."
And, to my old friend Misayagi [Mike] of the WWII 442nd.
I remember you all.

If my Granpa was still alive, he'd remember the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month.
And I wear the Poppy proudly in their memory.
In Flanders Fields if your unfamiliar with the poem please go and find it. They blow between the Crosses row on row.
Thanks to all that served.

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

To my Dad, who served in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean. And my nine uncles, eight cousins (including my brother and me), never forget.
God Bless America!

Poppies:
Years ago I found this book at a garage sale. Paid 7 bucks, thinking I found a real treasure. Written right after the war.
Then sometime after I got home with it, I found an orginal poppy from WWI inside pressed between its pages.

My father who was career Army, a medic and x-ray technician back when they weren't as careful about exposure to x-rays. It killed him just as sure as a bullet but the cancer took a lot longer. Jan 24, 1920 - Jan 3, 1979.
My Uncle Norton, who as a young enlisted man was sent to an unknown place called Bataan. He left there in April of 1942 as a POW and spent the war in a camp in Japan forced to work in the coal mines. While he lived until the 1990's, his health was bad for many years due to the treatment he received as a POW and damage to his lungs from working in the mines. Ironically, one of his sons suffered lung damage aboard USS Bonefish when she caught fire, Apr 24, 1988.

Many silent heroes among us. My Dad was awarded FIVE, & I didn't know of it until he passed & I found his discharge papers.

The mark of a true hero. I never knew of my dad's citations until after he passed.
