I started out with revolvers... I'm comfortable with them, they're simple and reliable.

Funny you say that. I'm still kicking myself for not having cash with me last Friday. I was waiting for an office lunch and stopped by my friends gun store to kill some time. A guy walked in with a Charter Arms Bulldog Pup snub nose .44 special he wanted to sell. The clerk looked up the value, and was only able to offer him $60 outright, and the guy didn't really want to trade on anything else, just needed some cash.

Not sure how much he wanted for it, but if I'd have had $100 on me I think I'd own that gun right now. Never owned one, but always wanted one for some odd reason.

To answer the O/P, I carry a J frame revolver because it fits in my pocket holster and my ankle holster better than the Glock 26.

I frequently carry a 337 Ti on the ankle or in a pocket. The reasons are the same as already stated...Reasonable power for size and weight. Its reliable and not too sensitive to ammunition type or bullet shape. It's simple to operate and can be operated in less than ideal positions. Contact distances are not a problem. I started out in law enforcement with a M10 and carried revolvers on and off duty for a good many years. I don't exclusively carry revolvers but I prefer the J Frame to the little .32/.380 autos.

I like the fact that I can fire my 642 from my jacket pocket and it won't jam, fail to cycle, or get caught on anything.

Oh, and they don't make enough .357 mag semi autos.

Many other reasons have been mentioned. The reliability and simplicity are two reasons I personally like them. I can shoot them well so my personal performance with them isn't a factor.

They're also just really cool.

I carry a revolver because of the (KISS)THEORY =KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.
No safetys to worry about ,Jams are almost unheard of.
And more choice of caliber than autos.

Cause if I can't do it in 5 or 6 shots, then I probably should have brought a long gun.

Years ago, I started with a revolver. Later on I went to the semi auto. I found myself coming back to the revolver. I can't really explain why, I just like revolvers better.

I am an revolver guy all over. When you have a good brand like Smith and Wesson it will work when you need it.

Only in Holland when I carry one it will cost me my permitt.
It is not aloud to carry in this country. All my revolvers are in the safe.

I carry a revolver because it goes "bang" more often and with fewer failures than self-loaders.

I been told by the old timers who wanted to dig into me like a tic real men shoot blackpowder. I guess there correct but thats for when i get older......

I carry revolvers and auto's.

My auto pistols run as dependable / reliabile as my revolvers function. I purchased 3 bad brand new 1911's and took a loss when i traded them in because of FTF and stove pipes. I kept one the 1990 series 90 SA 1911a1 because it was so purdy in black park plus it was a national match pistol too. Three years ago i got a norinco 1911 and wanted to build it myself. I purchased every 1911 video on how to build, tweek the 1911 and watched them all winter over and over. I fitted a new G.I. barrel ($59 @ SPG) and a new IAI national match barrel bushing (cdnn investments) and a full length guide rod w/#18 recoil spring, now my norc 1911 shoots one clover leaf per mag. After doing this with awesome success i remembered my 90's SA new in the safe. The extractor needed tuning only. I fixed it and she runs ammo like all my other 1911's now. Like i said all my auto's function as good as all my revolvers. I have had problems with brand new 1911's (a few of them) but the CZ pistols never jammed once or ftf on me. My 1911's never jam now at all. My '05 auto ordnace army ww2 copy and my '05 springfield armory G.I. Mil Spec as it was called back then are the only two brand new 1911's to function properly right out of the box. My 70's and 80's new colt 1911's never functioned when they were brand new. Even my new colt python had cylinder timing problems too. I kind of washed my hands with colts.

I carry a new S&W model 58 in 41mag with a 4'' barrel in nickel most of the time. My choice of auto is the CZ82 in 9mm mak when there is a gathering with a dress code.

I carried the ruger redhawk in 44mag with the 7 1/2'' (winter)and 5 1/2'' (summer) barrels off and on for eons. I also carried the 1911 in 45acp and the CZ85DB in 9mm luger too off and inbetween the 44mag's. I notice as i get over 60yo now i need something a tad lighter. The S&W m58 w/4'' barrel in nickel is it plus i got the S&W m57 w/6 1/2'' barrel in 41mag too in nickel. But right now that little CZ82 in 9mm mak is part of me like my wallet unless i go into the bad lands then its my S&W in 41mag. The bad guys sees that shiney big revolver in the dark with the big hole in the barrel is really intimidating for sure. Bill

I wanted a S&W N frame in 41mag since i was in my 20's. Now i have 2 and i'm going to buy more too. (S&W 57 4'' barrel in nickel) Plus i want the S&W N Frames in 357mag and in 44mag too. (soon) I'm looking for the 4'', the 6 1/2'', and the 8 3/8'' barrels too.

I have been a LEO since 1968 until I retired this year. I carried a revolver up until about 1990, then we went thru an endless succession of semi autos in .9's and .40's. I could never shoot as well with the semi's and never really trusted them. Half the time at the range was spent practicing how to clear a FTF or FTE. I can't remember how many times magazines were faulty or just fell out of the gun because they weren't properly seated by the shooter. Revolvers aren't foolproof either but if properly cleaned and maintained they usually work as intended. I have given most of my semi's to my son (also an LEO) as he doesn't trust revolvers. Another thing, revolvers really look good!

During my 30 year LEO career I had to use my service revolver to protect myself, and in once instance, a citizen. As previously posted here it just works absent all the "stuff" that goes with the semi-autos. My agency transitioned to the autos before I retired so I learned to use them and do not knock them.

In retirement I carry my 442 daily and my Colt Cobra (1968) is still carried from time to time. For my money you cannot beat the old wheel guns.

I dont CCW all that much. When I was working as just a guard, I carried revolvers for over 35 years. So with all the requalifing I definetly am more comfortable with revolvers. Also they intrigue me more. I have many revolvers and only one auto, a worked over 1911 remington-rand.
I am not near as active as I was years ago with experimenting, reloading and shooting. I had autos too back then. I never liked chaseing brass, broke my heart to lose so many. No auto is currently made that is as powerfull as revolvers. Yes there was the automag, but how many were available, and I doubt if anyone wanted to conceal one.
My dad was my teacher. He was a conservative practable man and owned everything but autos, and trained me to make every shot count.
I never could buy the mind set of spray and pray, or haveing a ton of extra rounds with me. Not at all saying I am right, its just what formed my opinion. I well know all the arguments possible on each side and have forty years ago. Unless a person is a very dedicated active shooter, I belive the simpler, the better. Listen up! You might be active for a number of years with a auto, but as you age, shooting gets pushed aside as it`s no longer a new thing and you get a little dull or complacent or whatever. Even for us old guys I belive the simpler the better in exciteing moments. Thats why I pack a revolver when I pack.
But then again, even stainless handguns are the sign of a newbie to me!

I'm typing this response on a computer that will be worthless in 2 or 3 years. Sitting next to this computer is a wheelgun that's worth twice what it was new 40+ years ago. AND it'll be worth more than I paid for it 40 years from now. AND it will still work. Every time. Probably without any maintenance or 'upgrades' whatsoever. I can't say the same for my SA's.

Why do I carry a revolver?

1) It's simple, intimidating and more versatile.

2)If it was good enough for policemen for 80 years before Mel Gibson and Keanu Reeves and their spraycans entered Hollywood, then it's good enough for me.

3) 1 or 2 well placed bullets from a revolver say a lot more than 15 sprayed bullets from a semi automatic. If you can't hit what you aiming at, then you're dead no matter what you're carrying.

4) If I need more than 6 rounds, I don't need a semi-automatic handgun, I need a 12 gauge or an AR-15

5) Revolver looks better 8)

6) you can keep it loaded all the time without worrying about magazine springs weakening

7) You don't have to keep a slide oiled all the time

8) no brass to pick up

9) few, if any, jamming problems

10) misfires you pull the trigger again

11) no slide render the gun inoperable if it gets pushed against something in the front.

I ususally carry a revolver more because I seem to shoot them more accuratly than a auto. But I shoot a revolver alot more than autos, if it was reversed Im sure the auto would get the nod.

Sir, I don't usually carry a revolver, but when I do, it's because I need something either bigger or smaller than a 1911.

Different jobs, different tools.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I do carry .45 auto alot, but a .357 of one sort or another more often. As many others have said the revolver goes bang when you pull the trigger. You can shoot it single or double action. Speed loaders offer fast reloads. The safty never comes off accidentally. I do have several I choose from, 649, easy to carry, accurate enough for close encounters. A 686+ with a 4" tube and a 627 with a 4" tube. Either one of these are a bit bigger, but 7 or 8 shots of .357 is alot of stopping power and what I carry when camping or hiking these days. I guess if I knew there was going to be an extended gun fight I would choose a 45 auto, just a bit faster on reloads, but I find myself with a revolver 90% of the time. Another thing is I can keep it loaded forever in the safe, and it is always ready. I don't keep mags loaded for the 45 other than carry or shooting. I have never had a revolver malfuction; although, I have had FTF a few times with a 45...usually with new springs or bad ammo. Never a problem with a revolver. I have heard they can malfuction, just havn't had it happen with mine......ever.

Default Why A Revolver

I carried Colt revolvers most of my life. Usually a nickle Colt Cobra, sometimes a Python. I got away from them, and started carrying .45s. Settling on Kimbers. Now, I carry a S&W revolver almost 100% of the time.

I just plain enjoy all my guns, and I like to switch around a lot on what I carry. N, K, L, & J I carry them all & switch them around. They just plain have more "soul" than an auto-loader.
While I still do occassionally carry a .45 it is becoming less & less all the time. Blue steel, and wood is just plain more pleasing, and enjoyable to me.

I do seem to be a little more proficient with a .45, but I feel comfortable with any of the pistols, or revolvers that I carry.

Tom

I always have a J frame on me because it is the only handgun I own where there is absolutely no excuse to not carry...summer, spring, fall, or winter, a J frame in one of your pockets is a no brainer, and in a minute or so, you will forget you're even carrying; of course, if you're one of those types who only wears a thong when walking your dog, then perhaps the concept of concealed carry does not apply. My 1911's, my Glocks, even the PPK are a PIA to carry at all times, and nowadays, it's a rare thing when I do carry them.

No worries about failure to fire, stove piping, failure to eject, limp wristing, bad magazines, slide interference, failure to release (or engage) the safety, second strike capabilities, I could go on, but I won't.

I'm a revolver guy. It's not that I have anything against semi's, I just personally prefer revolvers. I've shot semi's, in fact I qualified for my CCW with a .40 Springfield semi. I just like the idea of having a gun that's just point and shoot without any levers, buttons or knobs like my 442 in my home made owb holster. My holster's retention is molded in, no snaps, buttons or levers to fool with. If needed I can just grab my snubby and yank it out.

I can't fit a baseball bat in my pocket, swords get in the way when getting into the truck.

I replied 13 months ago and mentioned-three or four times-that the revolver always works.

Now that this has been resurrected, I also carry one because of the weather. It's hot and humid in Florida and I spend much of my day out shooting.

I see a few carrying larger semis, but the have to work harder, IMO, to keep it concealed (and, since I know they have a larger gun, it's not working too well for many of them).

I can wear shorts and a shirt, t or polo, tucked in if I choose and my revolver is still concealed. I know about tuckable holsters, but I still see the bulge and I prefer to be really anonymous as far as my firearm goes.

Too bad they discontinued them. If they were smart they'd start producing them again. The problem is everyone's going for lightweight Scandium/Titanium Alloy these days.
So they should produce a Scandium/Titanium alloy small revolver in .44 special. People that enjoyed the kick of a Bulldog will surely enjoy that!!!

They worked for my dad and grandad....they'll work just fine for me, solid, reliable, and they've got class, a high quality revolver will outlast many generations of owners.

I carry my SP101 in my front pocket. I know it will go "BANG" everytime if I ever need it to.
