Default Gander Mtn Kenosha

Anyone ever use their gun smith service? S&W has them listed as a service center. I have a pre-29 that is locked up and if this place is ok I would drive it down there. I live in Sheboygan and would rather drive it to Kenosha than Fed Ex it to S&W.

I have never used them, but I know that Shooter's Sport Center in racine was an S&W armorer.

No offense to imjin but DO NOT let shooters in Racine touch your firearm! I'm in Kenosha but never used Gander Mountain so other then the warning about shooters am not much help.

Don't know much about Gander but before any work is done talk to the gunsmith and explain to him not to damage your gun, see what he thinks and what he will do gives you a chance to feel him out to see if he knows revolvers or just knows how to put pistol grips on Mossberg 500's. I personally would send it to S&W they know them better than anyone just my opinion.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's going back to S&W Monday. Just afraid of loosing it is transit. On the other hand I know to many butchers that call themselves gun smiths. That's why I posted this. Normally I do my own work but this one has me stumped. Got help over in the smith forum but still can't get the darn thing to work.

bloo..

Just go ahead an send it to Smith.. the money spent will be forgotten.. but the quality work will remain.. Be sure to call and make sure they will work on the " older" gun..

My opinion.. your money ..

As far a losing it in transit.. UPS.. next day from a HUB NOT A STORE FRONT.. insured.. yup about $80.00 bucks or so.. but remember your buying piece of mind

I used Gander Mountain gunsmith services, here in Michigan. Not a very good experience.

I had a fixed choke barrel for a Remington 870, and wanted screw-in chokes installed. I took it to the Novi, MI, store, and they sent it to Wisconsin. It sat there for almost nine weeks. Turns out that the barrel's fixed choke was too tight for standard screw-ins, and it needed thin wall chokes. Without asking me, the 'smith at Novi told them to put in the thin walls. When I got it back, they had installed a improved cylinder choke. Oh, I told them at the outset that the barrel was to be used on a trap gun.

I complained to the shop manager, and sent an email to the shop in Wisconsin. They next-day shipped full, and imp-mod chokes at no extra cost.

The gunsmith at the local store ended up losing his job over this, but I suspect this wasn't the first time he failed to contact the customer.

They made good on the screw-up, but nine weeks is a bit long, even allowing for summer vacation.
