The best ones I remember aren't PC anymore (...she won't do it but her sister will... and two old ladies lying in the bed...).

Personally, I always liked the ones that either told a story or made fun of other Soldiers for being MPs, being tankers, anyone not infantry, profiles, other units, hippies, or legs...

An old USMC Gunny (ret) and I were at summer camp with our Boy Scout Troop. One of the kids was moving from Memphis to Racine as soon as we got back. :(

We were marching and I said:
"I don't know but I've been told"
About this time Gunny was on his way to tackle me with blood in his eye  when I continued with:
"Wisconsin winters are mighty cold"

:) :)

Us Air Force troops in the 60's generally caught the bus or drove our cars to the flight line shops. Not much marchin goin on at Langley Field.

We used to sound off with some "old ones" in high school JROTC.
(It was a while ago).

We had a Col. who was Air Borne, and a Master Sgt who was not.
One day in class the Sgt. looked up and, out of nowhere, said

"Has to be something wrong with someone who would jump out of a perfectly good airplane."

Then just went on with class...

The only ones I can half way remember from high school ROTC were X rated or very un PC, but that was in the mid 60s.

In the 70's we were sitting around watching the old John Wayne movie "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon". At one point my Dad said "That's funny, I remember marching to a version of that song in '42." My Brother-in-law laughed and said "That's funny, I marched to that song in '67." I remembered this when I found myself marching to that same song at Ft. Dix in the '80s.

Memories,
ah memories, 1956 MCRD San Diego, A shock to my young butt, however It brought back memories. R.Lee did the best rendition I have ever seen...Yes including the love taps, and Sir, Yes, Sir. One of those love taps took 2 stitches, but did I learn how to enter the duty hut correctly,,,,You can bet your butt on that Yep I tripped over one of those darned locker boxes....Whoa be the unfortunate cruit that failed to Qualify, his life was never the same. We had one, he disappeared into that land of the retraining platoon....Never to be seen again..........Boot Camp is the reason that "Once a Marine always a Marine" Semper Fi Nobody could sing cadence like the Marines, not even close!!!

My 11 year old daughter, who enjoys music, joined the Yorktown Fife and Drum Corps over the summer. She loves the fife music. As a recruit, she has to start off carrying the flags and must learn ten fife songs and "pass off" on them in order to march and play. She is learning discipline and teamwork and loves the crowd appreciation! She told me, "I bet you never expected me to like marching like a Marine."
This kid will be all right.

I am not a military veteran unforunately but i have written a start to a cadence. Warning its not great but i think its a good start.
1,2,3,4 United States Marine Corps!
5,6,7,8, Where do we learn to shoot straight?
In the United States Marine Corps!

You know, I wasn't much for marching, but singing jody cadence, I could troop down the old dusty road all day long with my garrand feeling mighty light on my shoulder.

"If I die in a combat zone, box me up and ship me home.
Cross my arms across my chest, tell the girls I done my best"

"You hada good home, but you LEFT, you're RIGHT,
Sound off, one, two, three, four. Cadence Count."
