Default Good old fashioned spelling????

Since it seems like plenty of folks here are complaining about this or that, I thought I would throw one out. Please grab a dictionary if you can't spell. The amount of incorrect spelling on this site is appalling. This inncludes incorrect usage of and spelling of "like" words (where vs. were; too vs. to; etc.).

Never, ever trust a feller that can't spell a word but one way

It's all those double enduhwindows that get my goat

Merry Christmas too all and to all a good nite.

Everyday that I can put my shoes on by myself is red letter day!
I don't sweat over the small stuff.

I know what you mean, I think. I catch myself doing it sometimes when words sound the same but are spelled differently. Now if a word is spelled wrong I guess I was too lazy to check.

Perhaps, but I think whining about some 16yr old not kissing "your" (not you specifically) butt at some retail service counter is as well.

Default Please grab a dictionary if you can't spell.

Good advice, except to look up the correct spelling using a lexicon you have to know how to spell the word in the first place, now what good is that. Come on if I knew how to spell a word why would bother to look it up in the dictionary; and if I don’t know how to spell a word the dictionary is no help because I can’t check the spelling of a word because I don’t know how to spell it in the first place. It’s just not fair.

Thank God for M/S spell check, without it I would be in deeper doo than I normally am.

These "like" words are properly known to owners of dictionaries who know how to use them as either homonyms, or, homophones, or homographs. The root "homo" means "alike" and has no sexual connotation apart from its use in the word homosexual, which is unfortunately frequently foreshortened in colloquial slang, giving the root unwarranted connotations elsewhere.

What troubles me about this is that non-gun people may visit gun sites and may be doing a term paper or research paper on gun control. Some may be thinking of buying a first gun, and want to know more about the "gun culture." If they see the way some here spell (and otherwise behave) , what will they think? It just reminds them that most academics and the media say/infer that "gun people" are ignorant rednecks.

A great deal of the antipathy and contempt directed toward "gun people" is the result of that image. Why foster it?

The more that I'm on the Net, the more I see such ignorance on non-gun boards, too. But it stands out more where people already half anticipate it. And it shapes public attitudes about gun ownership!

We do not take points off for misspelled words, poor grammar, or poor punctuation. Though we could start with the OP.

As a self-published author of several novels and an award-winning short story, I have determined through experience that checking grammar and spelling is what editors are for, and who am I to try and cut someone out of their job that they use to support their families and perhaps firearm collecting as well? It's the Holiday season, think of someone else!!!!!

Ignorance is everywhere, you don't have to look far to find it in any forum or gathering place, from gun sites to the legislature.

1. Get a life
2. Take pills for the OCD
3. Remove the beam from your own eye before criticizing others
4. Don't criticize others
5. Go away 'til you're more tolerant, or
6. Just go away.

What is a ppalling anyway? I've heard mention of them all my life, but have yet to understand what one is.

Anyway, weave awl got a few words we masseuse, but I'd rather have the CONTENT than perfect spelling and grammar.

A little misspelling won't hurt you unless you let it. Beats the heck outa being cut with dull knifes.

What many like our dear friend here seem to not understand is that most members are gun people who happen to own a computer...not the other way around. I'm sure if a bunch of Harvard professors were on this sight, we would be dinging them for not knowing the various dash changes of smith & wessons.
