Default DVR- Who is guilty

This drives my wife crazy. I'm watching a movie and the actor pulls out a revolver. First thing I do is put it on pause...ok that's at S&W M66, etc. Anyone else guilty?

I don't pause but I used to tell everyone in the room the model of the handgun. She didn't care for it. I took the hint. I don't do it anymore. My suggestion is for you to stop too. :-)

No. It is things like that, that is the reason for three TVs in the house. We both realize that we are entertained by different things and are OK with it. As a matter of fact, she gave me a new 1080p 25 inch HD TV for the dresser for Christmas! Yes, I enjoy watching the revolvers, particularly in the older movies, even the black powder ones, but there is no way that I could enjoy my relaxation while watching TV if I thought that I would irritating someone if I paused the picture. I am 58, and I guess I just want peace. That is why I sign my posts with John 14:27 Jesus to the appostles "peace I give to you, My peace, not the peace of the world, let not your heart be troubled or be afraid" Happy New Year!

I do the same thing with handguns and military weapons that are often misidentified on the news and Military Channel.
I did obtain a copy of the firearms identification chart that the news media use, however:

I just point out inaccuracies, such as civil war soldiers shooting M92 Winchesters, or a brass painted M92 or M73 without a forearm being called a Henry. Then there is the always present Star Model B 9mm posing as a Colt 1911.

You are assuming they would even bother to look at an identification chart. When it comes to firearms, they never let actual facts get in the way of how they want the story to be.

My Wife and I have watched every season of 24 through three times in the last two years. (Yes, it is ADDICTING!). She gets exasperated because I always get exasperated when Jack draws his pistol and NEVER has a round in the chamber.
Plus he ALWAYS has his finger on the trigger. That just bugs me. Now it bugs her, cause I point it out.....Every dang time.

Default Guilty as charged...

But only pause it when I am alone.
I did watch a movie were a really cool fight scene came on, first time we had seen it. One man against I think 5, who had swords. After the killing ended, the others were yelling all sorts of words..."cool"..."rewind that part"..."did you see that"...I was just laughing as I was looking for the remote, when the scene was being shown again. This time in slow motion! Everybody was back into the movie again. It was as if the director knew we would be going for the remotes so he did it for us in slow motion. A great afternoon!

I generally only pause it when I'm alone or after asking Gina if she would mind (she usually conceals most of the eye-rolling in her voice when she says it'll be okay). I think I really need to take bopr's advice (and bopr, you need to post more often, amigo: many of us could use sage advice like that! ).

I am also one of those pause loners and found out something the other night while doing so.

I'm currently on a Rifleman kick and wanted to see how Chuck Conners (Lucas McCain) did his fast fire routine during the intro, including the rifle twirl all of us kids tried to duplicate with our BB guns back in the day.

In slow motion I found that Chuck wasn't even touching the trigger for any of his shots, so his rifle, at least that one, must have been modified to fire when the bolt closed.

Somehow I felt cheated......

I was watching Criminal Minds the other night, couldn't figure out what revolver the young guy was carrying. All the other actors were packing pistols. Looked like a M65?

Speaking of "The Rifleman", I had a Rifleman cap gun when I was a youngster and that was the way it worked. It had a small protrusion on the lever that would pull the trigger when the lever closed.

What memories!

Happy New Year Everyone.

Thanks Frank, I'll have to check that out....

Edited to add: Thanks to Frank I was blind but now I see.
There is indeed a small tab on the inside of The Rifleman's trigger guard that actuates the trigger when they lever is closed.

Naw. I might from time to time try to guess, but I'm not really all that curious. It's just a movie.

I remember that! I had one too! It had a small pivot where you could close it up and pull the trigger with your finger, or open it up and the tab pulled the trigger.

I haven't thought about that in probably 45 years.

It it is a DVD and I can pause it, yes. Always noticing on t.v. programs if they are carrying a revolver and trying to id what make and model. Still drives me crazy that I can't get a good look at the revolver that the young vest wearing cop on Criminal Minds is carrying. Looks to be a round butt K frame S&W. Made the comment to my wife that he would be too young to be grand-fathered in to carry the revolver, and even if he was older, regs would probably require him to carry an auto. Wife just rolled her eyes at me.

I loved the "Rifleman" when I was a kid! Here's a link I found for photos and more information about his rifle:

I must have a nice wife, she makes a game out of it now, everytime she sees a firearm first thing out of her mouth is, what kind of gun was that? Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I miss, haven't figured out my prize yet though!

Well, when we first got a DVR some years ago, I used to pause, reverse, and put into slow motion when there was a good looking woman...now, I guess I am getting older because I do that for guns! (Not just revolvers...) I also go to the movie guns database and look up the shows to verify them.

I do find the DVR very useful when watching a show with my wife...she has the most amazing ability to ask a question, completely unrelated to the show, at the exact most critical moment of dialog. With this technology, I can be gracious and pause the show, answer her, "rewind", and see what I missed. The DVR is a fight-saver in our house!

Watched a few minutes of an old movie with Paul Newman today - he was Billy the Kid. One of the guys was carrrying a Colt on a New Service frame, maybe a 1917, with an ejector rod screwed on the barrel to make it "look"like a SAA. Jeez, I hate it when they do that!

My grandkids were over last Wednesday and we were all watching some stupid action flick. My 17 year old grandson calls out "HK USP Compact". It was a rather dark scene and I asked him what keyed him. He said it was the shape of the trigger guard caught by a distant light. I couldn't be more proud!

I've always enjoyed John Garfield and his Colt M1905 in "Air Force".

Of course there's the unexpected accuracy of Fernando Lamas and his twin Colt M1902s in "100 Rifles".

Watch the movie El Dorado closely some time. Robert Mitchum's revolver switches from an SAA to an Official Police or M&P/M10 and back again several times.
