The Sounds of New Years
North of Seattle last night I experienced a fireworks celebration equal to that of the 4th of July. Included were two sets of submachinegun fire...fully automatic and about 15 rounds each. No lie!

There's some idiot who blasts off 10-20 rounds from what sounds like an AK in rapid semi-auto succession each New Year midnight (and 4th of July) somewhere within a half-block radius of my home. It's loud enough to scare my dogs who are pretty much immune to typical holiday fireworks and such. I wouldn't mind if I lived out in the sticks but that's not the case. I keep hoping to see a police cruiser show up and take care of whoever it is but so far no luck.

We had the normal "battle-zone" sounds last night with quite a few BIG boomers in the mix, some as late as 3 a.m.
This past fall I came home after being out & about and when I got out of my van I heard at least two fully automatic weapons firing long bursts about a half mile away. When I asked my wife how long that had been going on she said, "off & on for hours."
I was out at midnight last night and fully expected to hear some of those long bursts in the mix coming from that direction but they never materialized. I still wonder who that was........

Didn't hear a thing last night, and I don't think it was because of the bottle of St Clair Chardonnay I had consumed. Usually there's a rattle of firecrackers and small arms, but last night, nothing.

New Years eve was truly an awesome event in '66... Vietnam. The entire sky lit up with flares and tracers.

I have to admit that once upon a time at New Years 1970-71 I was 'guilty' of firing up in the air. But all our rounds went out over the wire. Seems like even tho it wasn't their new year, some other folks joined in. A lot of green and white tracers were coming towards our side of the wire.
Anybody that does it without those circumstances is damn stupid.
