Askins Avenger style rig
I'm curious how many of you like this design...seems quite popular on most gun forums...but I have to say, as nice a rig it is for the range or under a coat, under a shirt it really doesn't hide all that well for me (tried it with my Sp101)...the rounded front is excessively large and the absence of a forward belt loop doesn't make the rig pull in like a pancake. Would like to hear opinions from others here that use this style.

I find they hide very well, up tight against my side.
I've worn a Bianchi with my .45 Colt Gov't Model for the last 25 or so years, but it has become a bit loose, now it's like carrying my gun in a leather bucket.
I wore a Kirkpatrick rig for a Glock 19 for a year in Afghanistan, open carry, it just lost a bit of the shinyness and it's still tight as a drum.
I also have a Bulman Leather model for my Glock 36, I carry it nearly every day concealed.
All in all, it's my favorite style of holster.

Different strokes for different folks, one of the first holsters I made myself was a version of Lobos 'Enhanced Avenger.' I still use it and like how it carry's, but it's just hard to beat a nice pancake holster for me.

I know this is not ground breaking news to anyone but I don't think you can beat the pancake style for CC in an OWB holster. The design naturally keeps it close to the body.

I think the work best with a semi-auto. I have one (Bianchi) for a S&W auto that I've used for years.

I use one fitted for my 1911s. Not the most secure holster. Best used when out shooting or at the range.

One of the most copied and imitated holsters of all time. For good reason...they work very well.

I now it's a fav...but for me, I can't hide the holster even when it's empty...the opening looks like a cavern compared to my other rigs...maybe I just have a higher standard for concealment...my OWB Del Fattis and Lobos all disappear under my t-shirts with both my 442 and my P2000...Del Fatti offers this design also and he even told me it's more of a general use/range holster...it's even in the description on his website...guess I'll keep it for under a jacket or when in soft uniform working the range...I IWB most of the time anyway...

My Askins Avenger looks nothing like that. I''ll take a pic and post.
My bad. Mine's for a .45 auto not a revolver. Has a forward belt loop.
I used it for the old PPC/IPSC in the mid 80's.

My No. 1 favorite carry design ever. Have tried dozens of different designs and settled on this as the best for me. Carried this design for years on the job, and am still using it. At it's best with autos, but works OK with revolvers also.
The best examples I've ever tried came from Lobo Gun Leather - Home

Sip,
I know they are pricey, but the Kramer Leather Belt Scabbard in Horsehide (canted version in black) is the finest CCW holster I've ever had in my 30+ years of totin'. Check them out. Don't get the cowhide version, the Horsehide model is the ticket; thin, light weight, tough as nails, excellent retention without the use of straps, snaps, screws, etc. I've got one for my M60, Colt Dick Spl. (just like your new baby), and my M65 3".

I just gave our son a BHP Mk III .40 S&W and a Bianchi Askins Avenger holster. The Mk III is a bit thicker than a regular BHP so it is a tight fit. I agree a pancake style holster conceals better, that is what I carry my BHP 9mm in.

very nice rig....similar to my Del Fatti LP..for now though, I will use my High Noon IWB from my SP101 since it also fits the DS...I also have a nice leather IWB with a thumb snap I got from my dad....I took it home last rip to NY since he only ankles his DS...I remember he always wore it between the belt an pants instead of inside the waistband...now they make holster designed that way......
It might look worn, but only the color is faded..leather is in great shape. No maker's mark...probably made by a fellow cop back in the early seventies..

I've come to the same conclusion as you, they just don't work for me. When I began carrying most of the instructors suggested this style. I've owned a bunch and sold all except an Alessi that I use on the range. I believe the degree of cant doesn't seem to matter as the concealment comes from the butt being tucked into your side. On revolvers the front loop usually in the area behind the widest part of the cylinder, so when the butt tucks in the front rotates out. It makes a big bulge, at least on me.

sip, something about your father's holster looked familiar to me and then I remembered this thread I posted awhile back: http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/...d-holster.html
You guys are originally from NY, right?

I have a couple for pistols, that I bought in a bargain box. They are well made and completely unsuitable for me as a concealed carry rig. The gun sticks out too much. I really like an IWB holster or a good pancake holster for concealed carry

I new I had to have one the first time I saw it. Described mostly as a field holster, I find it to be a great owb alternative which works well under an untucked flannel shirt or jacket.
