I'll admit it, I love custom knives as much as guns. I am trying to support makers in Michigan. Here are a few of my favorite Michigan makers, show me some pictures of your local guys.

We have a bunch in these parts but.......

this is the only example I have from an Arkansas maker, Jim Crowell MS of Mt. View, Ark.

A couple of those Mich. makers sure have the Scagel look down well.

There are several local guys with talent within a short drive of my home. Gene Ingram is my favorite.

Doug and Jim are almost totally Scagel in their production (I seem to remember Doug has some of his original drawings and prototypes), Bill does a few in that style, and Brian thinks since "everyone is doing Scagel" he will stick to his own stuff.

I have a folder by Bobby Toole of Vicksburg, it is a wonderful knife. He has not been up here for several years, so hopefully he is still making knives down there.

Dominus_Lex, do you happen to have anything from Michael Morris? I've been looking at his knives lately and kicking some ideas around as to what I might like to order.

Now that sounds extremely cool! How about a pic. with something in there to give an idea of its size? :)

Think I found it: www.raderblade.com - Photo Archive - Staffsword

I'll post a pic as soon as I can find one. That's one of Mike's more recent creations. He's gotten a little more fancy as of late, and works in damascus alot. Mine is 1050 carbon, and holds a heck of an edge. The rig is just the right thing for hiking, but it kind of worries the neighbors when I trim the hedge.

Wish I had a local maker. My best is an "Old Thorny" folder by Jerry Fisk.

His description, "sharp enough to shave a sleeping mouse and not wake it up".
Took years to get after ordering before he was named a "National Living Treasure".
Waterfall damascus and fluted Elephant ivory. Lower L shows a partial frogskin sheath custom made
by his direction. SWEET stuff.

Nice Blades displayed by all!

Now l'm gonna have to dig out some of my rendezvous knives and show 'em off. Makers include Mike Beath, OK; Mickey Wise, MS and BlindHorse Knives. A well made knife is a fine compliment to a finely balanced Smith & Wesson.

I'm still working on knife pics. I haven't quite figured it out yet.
Dano / D. Arvel collection.
This is one of my favorite boot knives. D. Arvel Owens.
And the bowie is a factory blade, I did the hilt and sheath.

I took a couple pics. Forgive the quality! Edit: Just spent a little time cruising Mike's website. Man, has he gone uptown!

Sorry to say I do not know him, and do not remember seeing his stuff at a show. I really like the Snapless Torpedo on his website. This is the very reason I started the thread, so many knife makers so little time....

I wish I had some better pics, but if you check out his website you'll see what he's doing. There's one on there that he made for Christmas for my son in law, Kurt. Kurt raises Germain Shorthair pointers, and he incorporated a design in the sheath that includes one - very clever stuff. (He does all the leather work too). He really is a "young guy" but he shows a lot of promise.
