More and more I find myself PURPOSELY DVR-ing the shows I like, then watching them a half hour after they start. This way I can Fast Forward through the dumb commercials.

Annoying ? Absolutely. I hit the Mute then wait. If it's too long I change channels. Another lousy Progressive commercial. Flo was bad enough.

I liked the original commercial the first 20 or so times it ran.

Funny thing about most of these Oh-So-Hip ads. I never remember what they are advertising.

The original ad had a Rod Serling look-alike pondering the question: "Can we save you money?? Well, did this little piggy cry "whee, whee, whee" all the way home?"
... And the pig then did exactly that. Hip and cool, huh?

this is the second pig going "weeee" spot...the first was the pig riding home from school with a pinwheel out the window going weee weeeeeee weeeeee...and this little piggy went weee weee all the way home

Good thread. I've been so fed up with over-repeating car insurance commercials to the point of leaving the TV off and finding better ways to occupy my time. It wouldn't even be so bad that the ads are annoying, and seeming designed by teenagers, but the repeating of the same ones, and the length of the commercial breaks is getting out of hand.

The sad thing is, your tax dollars are likely paying for the mega-advertising blitz of the last couple of years. Has anyone noticed the increase in car ins. advertising after the bailout, and gov't intervention? Insurance companies own banks, and banks qualify for huge bailout $$, so the ins. company can get their hands on it and dump large amounts of our money into advertising and lobby some back to their favorite politicians. Should that be legal?

Watching live tv without recording is becoming a thing of the past with me. I can hardly even stay interested in a news program or a live football game because of the long commercial breaks every time the ball changes hands. I've gotten used to hitting the mute button as soon as the breaks come on, and go to the computer, or pick up a guitar. Many times, I don't even come back to the program - no continuity equals less entertainment value from the television for me.

I used to like to leave Fox news or CNN on in the background as I work around the house. I dont even do that now, because I know every few minutes I'll be annoyed by another repetitive Geico, Progressive, or Allstate commercial. It insults my intelligence, and has caused TV to become less important around here. I'd rather turn on one of my vintage Yamaha tuners and hear some good clean music. Forget the radio too, you'll hear Geico there too.

I've sent emails to the companies, and to the networks. Any company who has enough $$ to run ads on every network, every commercial break, will not get a dime of my money.... and the funny thing is, my local agent beats all of their rates through Erie Inurance Group, for home and auto. Probably because Erie doesn't have a huge television advertising budget. Pretty simple math.

All I can say is, boycott the fat cat insurance companies, buy local, and send emails to the networks. The public pays high dollars for tv, and deserves better.

And I didn't even get started about the song clip ads that get repeated over and over. Doesn't it bite when it's a song you hate, and you're away from the mute button?

What about this one that runs on Fox news a zillion times a day ... "Is your computer running slowly? Thinking about buying a new one?" I enjoy dry firing at that one with my 10-7 3".

Speaking from experience, I advise not to shoot the pig.
I once shot Mr. Wipple. Shot placement was good. and the 158gr .357 should have done the job. But he not only survived, he kept going for years.
And although the 19" B&W TV stopped the slug, I'm not so sure the new flat screens will do the same.

Flo was standing on my last nerve the first time I ever saw her, and it's only gotten worse.

I'm also getting real good at reaching for the mute button a half second before the commercials start. For what I'm paying just for the privilege of watching crummy shows, I shouldn't EVER have to suffer through another commercial the rest of my life.

If it wasn't for baseball, football and military shows, I would have NO need for a TV. Harrumph.

This is almost as bad as the Georgia Lottery commercials. They should drop whatever ad agency they have and put those millions into the Hope Scholarship program also. That way we would be saved from all of their really bad ads.
