Didn't like any of it. Dropped out and joined the Navy. Think that was best for both me and the school. When others have their year book I have my cruise book. Never looked back or regretted my decision. Some of us just ain't made for book learning.

Actually my favorite class was auto mechanics. We were allowed to take 3 hour classes back then.

Strange thing but like you typing ran a close second to my favorite class. After I learned the home keys it seemed to come easy. My best speed was 65 words a minute with no mistakes, but that was on standard typewriter. We did not have any electric typewriters in our school then. As I left high school and went to work in the real world my typing skills got a little dull. I still used typing but not as much. I really did like my typing teacher too, short good looking woman. By your typing speed you probably had some electric typewriters.

I retired after working for Cadillac for 47 years and of course we had in house computers to use for typing and such in all our research.

I was a bad student. Just put in my time. About a week before graduation the principal called me in and told me I wasnt going to graduate. He said I was a half credit short. I thought I was spot on. We went through it together and he was right. I looked closer and said theres your mistake. Sure I flunked algerbra but I did pass the first half year, give me a half credit for the half year I passed. He let me slide and gave me the half credit!
My mom somehow had me start 1st grade at 4 years 4 months durring the war. Dad wasnt home and she probley viewed school as a baby sitter for me while she ran a old large country general store. All of my school years everyone was at least two or more years older than me. It was hard. I might have always been the biggest kid or close to it but I was behind the rest in many ways and constantly haveing to fight most the guys. Big, slow and developed a chip on my shoulder. Yet they always shoved me through. I was happy to get a D just so I passed. I even thought I was dumb. I just rebelled and wouldnt crack a book.
Then in latter years I went and took a couple night class`s that interested me and had no trouble with them. I am sure my bad showing years ago was a mental block caused from starting school far too young and getting a inferority complex. I dont feel that way now, but it kept me in bull work in the early days etc.

Favorite class? I was just glad I survived, the most dangerous and treacherous place on earth is an American High School. Not being affiliated with a click I had to fight every day just to survive . However I did learn about drugs, sex and rock n roll.
I also meet my wife in High School who gave me four smart and beautiful children so it probably was not as bad as I remember.

My favourite? Whatever class came before the going home bell that day. I went to two high schools, the first was an education establishment, the second was a place where a load of kids and some adults hung out for 6.5 hours a day. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time in school, but it might have been nice to learn more.

Nevertheless, it was one of the most useful skills I learned in high school. As an EM in the army I used it in my clerking. Later I typed college papers, and now in my golden years, I can annoy the internet world with my complaining posts.

The only "class" I enjoyed was band (I don't know if that qualifies as a class or not.) I was not a good student...not because of any lack of ability, but because I didn't apply myself. I was in the marching band, which was 1st period, and then the stage band (a smaller, special group) which was the last period...so, I started and ended my school days doing something I enjoyed. I especially enjoyed the out of town foot ball games...while the foot ball players were on their buses (all boys) we were on the band buses (boys and girls) and making out on the way home! Yeah, they used to call us band nerds, but us nerds were kissing girls while the jocks were smelling each other's sweat!

I enlisted in the Navy right after high school, because I didn't want to go to college and do more school. After the Navy, though, I wanted to get an education, and I graduated from college with honors. I got my degree in Biology and Chemistry, taught high school for one year, and then went to work for the telephone company...and stayed until I retired.

History classes and science classes were good, interesting subjects and decent teachers. I also took a typing class and enjoyed that..Shop was fun too and I still love to work with wood and metal. I really enjoy making things.
Other classes.....well not much that held my attention (except for my junior year English Lit teacher, I've forgotten her name but still remember how pretty she was. Youngest teacher there and wore short skirts and heels a lot) but I digress.

Typing was my favorite. I was the only guy in the class. I didn't learn to type, but I had a great year.

World and US History and Society Today, a current events focused course. Biology and Chemistry tied for second.
Only the Chemistry made me money treating waste water and stilling, cleaning used solvents for reuse or disposal.

Guess I should have paid more attention, I still don't recognize people that come up to me and say, remember when we were in school? I just look at them like I probably did in high school. Last thing I remember about those days, when I graduated my parents bought me a 74 bug!

As many others have said, typing was probably my favorite and was definitely the most useful in my working life. Also English grammar(not literature) and history. Lunch was a pretty good one too. Favorite extracurricular was football and baseball.

None of the above...I hated HS and found it to be a 4 year break in my education between middle school and college. Sadly, I'm being serious.

You better believe it counts as a class. One with a lot higher standard that requires a lot more commitment and work than many others, but is also a lot more fun and is something you can do for the rest of your life with a great deal of enjoyment. (if it's done right, anyway...kind of like the back of the bus activities )

Sincerely,
The Band Director

I loved all my classes. Some of my teachers...not so much. But I loved everything...math, science, languages, but especially loved the fine arts. Didn't like school much. Loved learning. Still do.

History,,,,We had a retired Army Colonel that saw action in WWII
When we didn't like the lesson we got him started on the war stories, that was some good History!
I did like my shop classes and the vo-tech class I took, that got me to where I'm at today!
Sorry thing is that old history teacher left an impression on me and I still think today I should have went on to be a history teacher!

We had one like that, a Welshman that taught French. Told you my second high school was questionable.

Anyway, he was a nav in Blenhiems. He had a charmed life as one time they lost a big chunk of wing by hitting a trawler mast in fog. The landing was nearly wheels up with the bombs still dangling underneath. At the last second he realised the gear was not down and lowered it as they were on finals. The pilot had been in too much of a funk to remember.

That dangling bomb feature marked his kite as a very early version, probably referred to by the Luftwaffe as "practice". Shortly after the trawler incident he got shot down and had a 4+ year holiday at Sandals special Stalag Luft resort.

The stories were great, his French teaching, not so much.

Calculus. A Westpoint grad was my instructor and dear friend. He was very good. He also took me on my first out of state (to Craig Colorado) deer hunt. Sadly, he passed away 6 weeks after he retired.

'Nother band geek here. Concert band, marching band, pep band and stage band.
I even took my study halls in the band room in order to take optional practice. That, and the band director (previously employed as a doghouse bass player in a jazz band) smoked the same brand as I did.

I didn't like any of them. Not a single one.

I liked girls, cars, guns, and had a passing relationship with cherry flavored vodka.

Thus, I am probably the only lawyer you know who has a High School GED, at least the only one in the Florida Bar (where there ain't no cherry vodka).

My problem with high school was first through eighth grades. I went to a small country school 1-8 with excellent teachers and a principal who was a Korean conflict vet and a Church of God preacher. We learned everything we would need to know to be upstanding citizens before they sent us into town for high school. I breezed through high school without ever cracking a book (even the AP classes), which really screwed me when I went to college and had no idea how to study.

That said, I enjoyed history classes, particularly Oklahoma history, psychology, and home-ec. The VoAg teacher cornered me one time and asked why a country boy like me wasn't taking his class. I told him I already knew more about bull (stuff) than I wanted to know. Now I wish I had taken at least one year, if only to learn to weld.

I didn't like school, and I found none of the courses interesting. I liked math the least, and that has remained until this very day. I had an older brother who was mister personality-joined everything-ran for class prez-etc etc. He was 7 years older than me; just long enough for the teachers to forget the numbers racket he ran out of the library, and the other stuff. He was a 35 year old flim flam man walking around in a 17 year old bod, but he was very charismatic, and really knew how to blow the smoke on those teachers. Of course, when he was 17-I was 10, and everything he did that caused my parents problems, they DID NOT forget. So I had to carry his baggage. He got a car at 16-old Lincoln Zephr-had a head on, fortunately no one was hurt. As a result, I did not get a car-or a permit to drive one until I was about 18, which was LATE in the mid 60's. He loved school and everything about it-I didn't. He was a lot of flash and glad handing-I was a loner and wore a lot of black clothing. I really detested math, and got poor old Mr. Hurley, my brother's former Algebra teacher, in my first year of high school. He was the beginning of the "why can't you be more like your brother" theme that followed me through the 3 years that I was in that high school-I went to 3 high schools in my 5 year high school career. At the end of the year, Mr Hurley got me aside and shared with me "Son, you remind me of a huntin' dog I once had, I beat him, I choked him, I did everything to him, and he just would not do right. You have earned a failing grade in this class, but if you promise not to come back for Algebra II, I will give you a "D". Why couldn't you be more like your brother?" Hey-I was just glad to get shed of all the X+Y baloney!

I did have some teachers I liked, but they were almost all veterans or former leo's. But the pressure to pass these classes didn't really provide an atmosphere where I could get to know them, which I was reluctant to do anyway. One who stands out was Stuart A. Widener. He had been a Sherif in the Ukon, which qualified him for this math class on my 8th grade schedule. We were on a "section" system back then. The eighth grade was devided into many sections, based on the overall performance of the students that would end up in a given section. The one I was in was the very last one, and it was a rough crowd. We had caused two other math taechers to quit-one actually running from the room, never to be seen again-it was a tough room-and we were together all day-in all of our classes-so the whole "herd" thing was already highly developed in our group. So we were ready for "Sagebrush" Widener-which is what we ended up calling him. But we didn't have anything for old sagebrush, a guy who had cut frost bit parts off of folks up in the Klondike-or wherever he had been-nothing shook the man. The girls in this class had contests to see which one of them could break wind the loudest!

Through it all, we couldn't run him off, and when the end of the year came, and it was time for a field trip, no body wanted to take us anywhere; one teacher openly laughed when asked, but Sagebrush came throuh for us! We could hardly believe it. He was a real standup guy, never threatened us, raised his voice. I even wrote to him(he retired after this class) and had his picture for a long time-might still have it. Bless his heart, his head looked like it wore out two bodies-tough up yonder in the tundra I reckon. But I hated the math he taught-not his fault...

Took 5 years and 3 high schools-but I finally graduated. Then 32 years later, I entered college and university, liked it so much I stayed for almost 7 years. I was just minding my own business, looking to the Lord to lead me, and look at how things turned around when I trusted Him!

History/social studies was my favorite. I took typing as an "easy" credit my senior year. The school also got its first computer that year. You know, one of those with the black screen and green writing? Never thought that typing was something that I would use. Little did I know then the role that computers would come to play in our lives. Still use typing to this day.

Science. It was taught by the hottest teacher in the school. I didn't learn much but the class period passed much too quickly.

I had all the credits i needed by my senior year to graduate so i cruised my senior year with a cool vocational course, "shop class", which was all right but my favorite was a class called, Survival Living".
It was coed and was all about how to do your own thing, cooking, sewing, etc.... It was great because we would make these great meals
with food provided by the school. We'd cook it then get to eat it afterwards.

Wood and metal shop were fun, but music theory was my fav because the teacher let me and a 2 other guys sit in the back every day and play a guitar that one of us brought in and left in the closet. What the heck, it was music. We all got A's.
