what class in HS did you like best?...........
Kind of surprised I'm still a member here....posted a no..no..a few nights ago.....sorry...
What was your best class in High School that you liked? Mine was shop,,,,shop.... and shop. But, the best class that gave me the best skill was......typing! I loved typing class...i really did. I took a bit to get on base but once i did...i could type 90 words a minute with just a few mistakes. well ok,,,i make things up at times. still,..
I hated english, french and spanish classes....i told my teacher if she flunked me in my spanish class i would break all her pencles in her desk. well,,,,she won and I did what i promisted, and I got kicked out of class. her and I are great friends to this day..
shop class is good but a good typist is better. It took me 12 years after HS typing class that my typing skills came to play!
Just posten cause I can..and almost got kicked off for good..a few days ago. thanks moderator....

TYPING also! I passed a classroom one day and saw that all the students were girls, so I signed up. Latin was second. Both were a tremendous help in my career and gave me the ability to expand my knowledge.

Typing was offered in my HS. My dad said, "You should take typing, son. Most useful class I ever took." I thought, "Huh! I will be a big shot and have a secretary. I don't need to learn to type!"
So while not much of a big shot, I have a secretary, and I do almost all my own typing anyway. I am a hunt and peck, two finger typist and have been for the past 40 years.
As usual, Dad was right....
I probably liked gym class best.

English.... mainly since in my Sr year, all I had to do was pass that to walk across the stage. I had so many credits that all of my other classes in my last year of high school was just filler classes so I woke up when I wanted to and drove to school, got out an hour early and came back home.

I don't know that I liked it the best, but typing was also the most useful class I had. Who knew at the time that computers would one day take over the world and nearly everyone would need to type at least some things?

Physics. My HS chemistry and physics teacher was a great teacher, haughty, rigorous and demanding, but gave you the tools to solve problems. I also liked Latin, German and calculus. I loved math if the teacher was good, hated it if he was a dog.

Sciences and Mechanical Drawing. I never took shop in high school and ended up in an apprenticeship at a Fortune 500 company and a career as a machinist for 40 years.

History. I even took elective history classes. I also enjoyed physics and the chemical sciences, though the math involved in those courses was a drain on my communications oriented brain.

History of course, I have always loved history. especially American history. It is the story of our country and ourselves. I suppose typing may have given me the skills that I have used the most.

Ok, I said girls but actually my favorite was Anatomy and Physiology (really) along with Physics.
That lead to a career as a brain surgeon for rocket scientists.
My AP teacher was the best teacher I ever had in HS.
My Spanish teacher was the hottest!

Favorite - Mechanical Drawing followed by Chemistry and Physics.
Least favorite - English Literature [more because of the teacher than course content]

I liked AFJROTC but it was called Aerospace Science. We learned all sorts of things about weather, history of flight, military history, and some science of flight. They hosted the model rocket club and that was all kinds of fun. After that I would say some of the classes mentioned above already and add Auto Shop. That class taught some very basic and needed things to those of us who didn't have a dad that was handy with working on cars.

Driver's Ed
I also really liked Print Shop and Drama (I was a stage hand then Stage Manager my last two years).
As Stage Manager I was the only kid at Lew Wallace High School with his own office.

For me it was English and typing. I wound up being a radio teletype operator in the Army and both of these skills served me well. I was always good at spelling, even in grade school but I have noticed myself going to the dictionary more and more as I get older, (61). Probably 'cause I don't use a lot of words I used to. No watt eye meen?
Peace,
Gordon

Biology! I loved working with the microscopes. I also had a very cute lab partner named Donna. That girl could gut a frog in no time flat.

My most useful class was typing and I type pretty fast with all of my proper fingers in the right place. Who knew I'd need that skill to work one day.
My other favorite class was German and since I'm a big history nut it comes in handy. Too bad I didn't develope my passion for history until after college.

Mr. Sweet's Sociology class. There was this blond JV cheerleader...
After that would be my Senior year Home Ec class. I needed something to fill time between my two mandatory Senior year classes and track. Besides the obvious reason (32:3 F:M ratio ) it was right after lunch. For some reason I was always really hungry after lunch... (It was the 60s)

some one mentioned girls well a couple of other guys and I signed up for a Home Ec class (cooking) learned how to bake (cakes, pies, cookies from scratch) make jams and jellies, canning, full course meals, and nutrition. Served me well as a bachelor and later at the fire station and in my retirement with my wife's (of 48 years) poor health

History, American History, Montana History, and Civics. Oh, and a bit of Literature.
My Montana History and Civics teacher were one and the same - when it came to studying Custer's battle at the Little Big Horn, my teacher had this huge diorama of Custer's Battlefield and we pretty much reenacted the battle. I can still remember how excited he was and how infectious that was to us students.

I didn't do too well in typing. When you did a timed test they took off five words per minute for every mistake. The best I ever made it to was eleven words per minute.
I did like History, both World and U.S. I went on to major in History in college and got a MA in History, and taught History for twenty-two years.

I had a fantastic Biology teacher, he set the curve for every teacher after. I was not his only fan, in fact the gal who sat next to me in the class answered that call and is now a HS Biology teacher..

I liked biology, chemistry and physics and had great teachers for them. Those courses helped me get some scholarships to college. I signed up for typing my senior year. It was fun because it was all girls and me. They giggled a lot and annoyed the teacher. Unfortunately I flunked typing cuz I broke my hand in football. Since I couldn't type anymore, Miss Marietta Hulbert flunked me. I went to the principal(ex-football coach) and he erased the flunk....take that Hulbert!

Advanced Placement History.
Mr. Monteleone actually made an effort to make history interesting, with lots amusing anecdotes, including the Pope, the head of the Greek(?) Orthodox Church and a dais. Straight out of "Monty Python"...

Machine shop - no question. The skills learned there I still use today. Being able to take accurate measurements, operating a drill press, the proper use of hand files, polishing steel, etc. All these have helped me do gun work for the past 40 years. I'll never forget my instructor.
