I was a big John Wayne fan as a kid. The War Wagon seems to be on TV everyday lately and it got me remembering these pictures my parents took when we went to Universal Studios in 1968 when I was eleven. Those two guys were stuntman. The one on the left said he stood in for Michael J. Pollard in Bonnie and Clyde and the other for Richard Boone. That looks like an Andy Anderson gun rig on the left. These guys couldn't get away with pointing sixguns at a kid now. They would get sent to sensitivity training or fired. This was great times even though 1968 was one of the most chaotic in modern times. Something I was totally oblivious to then.

Great pictures!

John Wayne is my all-time favorite actor...and while "The War Wagon" isn't one of my top favorites of his movies, any movie with John Wayne in it isn't bad. :)

It's also one of my least favorite John Wayne movies now. But back then if my dad said, "Son, Ava Gardner is over there in a bikini. You want to go see her or go look at the War Wagon?" I'd have picked the War Wagon.

I watched "War Wagon" last night too...hadn't seen it in 25+ years.

Also watched "Sgt Rutledge" one I'd never seen. filmed in Monument Valley and Mexican Hat UT. Just visited that area a week ago...so many of the locations were familiar. GREAT area for a cowboy and indians movie.

Any John Wayne movie is better than what's being sent over the air waves these days.

If anymore of those "American something" titled series pops up on the cable channels, I'm going to hurl... "American Stuffers" ?? My first thought upon seeing it in the TV Guide channel schedule, was that it was related to the new "First Week In" show about the experiences of new prisioneers during the first week in jail. :D:D:D

My favorite exchange was between Kirk Douglas and John Wayne in that movie when they both shot their bad guys at the same time. Kirk Douglas says "Mine dropped first." and Wayne replied with "Mine was taller."

ok, I'll bite what is American Stuffers all about?

Frank237 sez: "Also watched "Sgt Rutledge"......"

A GREAT! movie. I saw it when I was a kid and thought, "Really? Negro cavalrymen?" I did not then know about the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments. I soon after began reading them up.

Many movies have caused me to study the real history. "Bataan", "They Were Expendable", and a few others.
