New gun on forum header
I wonder what kind of gun is on top of the page.
A long model 10?

I'm voting for a Pre-war K22 Masterpiece (K-22 2nd Model)

Looks like an Outdoorsman of some variation. I'll guess pre war 1940 mfg.

No Matter what it is at the moment
Shouldn't it Really be a S&W Handejector?

Nope, no extractor shroud. At least not a .38/44 Outdoorsman. Maybe a K-22.

would be the most appropriate choice

I think the barrel either says ".38 S&W CTG," .38 S&W SPL" or ".32 Win CTG" as it's too small to read clearly.
It's definitely a pre-war target of some variant, but not too far behind the war accounting from the ejector rod...hmmm

Correct! An infamous CTG!
Did I ever tell ya the story about when I picked up a CTG.....? ( pre-Model 14 K-38?)

Without being able to read the caliber on the barrel, I'm guessing it's an M&P Target Model.
Those guessing that it's a K-38/Model 14 aren't looking carefully. It had a ways to go to reach that designation.
It does resemble an early .22 Outdoorsman, later K-22, but without the caliber being known...

The S&W Logo is on the side, barrel is pinned and you can see the strain screw.

These guys got close enough, so I told them-
What revover is that? (the one at the top of the page)
The gun is Ed McGivern's K-32.
The pic is courtesy of Dave Ballantyne, the owner of the gun.
THANKS, Dave!

That is one nice looking gun. I was afraid to say anything because it might go away, the way things were changing lately. Nice improvement.

For those who want a better look this is the original picture that the gun was cut from.
Thanks to Mr. Dave Ballantyne for the use of his very special S&W Revolver.

The gun is awesome (as a relative newcomer to SW, I'll take everyone's word for that) but the header looks kind of amateurish IMO. I'll bet there is an artist here somewhere that could really make something that pops - using the same revolver (or maybe 2) - needs balance and a better photo or drawing.
No, I'm not volunteering because I have no talent for it - just a suggestion.
I'll also add that the speed improvement is great - to bad that I lost all the hundreds and hundreds of "likes" that I had

I didn't guess, so I guess I don't win anything! Thanks for sharing the revolver with us gentlemen. It's special to see anythng owned by Ed McGivern, and a target .32 to boot!
So, is this going to become a regular contest???

Believe me when I tell you we went through about 75 incarnations of the forum banner, with multiple guns, layers, shadows, reflections and text effects. The plain jane look just popped out of the page better. The others got lost in their own complexity. Less is more.

Lee. The thing that thru me for a loss was the hammer spur. Looks a lot alike Registered Magnum but the frame was a "K" model. However it's beautiful piece & many Thanks for posting. By the way I have a copy of Ed McGiverns book & enjoy re reading it from time to time.

I don't believe it's a rimfire, as there isn't a firing pin retaining pin.

I'm glad Lee chose between the .32 Target and the .44 Model 50 that used to reside up there. I couldn't make up my mind between either of them.

Yeah well (no offense but) sometimes it's not - good design is elegant in it's simplicity.
Sometimes less is less.
