The Wilson mainspring housing w/lanyard came today. Gonna put it on the Kimber 10mm. Got it for the heck of it mostly, but I want to experiment with it's intended purpose.

I've never seen a tether in real life or even pictures, and I'd like to know what makes a suitable one? I have many ideas. The thing is I'd like to do it with some class, but not go so far as a gold chain. Military style would be ideal if there is such a thing.

I like a lanyard on handguns worn over water, as while boating. I just bought a couple more the other day, and they're superior to another model I'd been using. The new ones are made by Gemtech (not sure if this the same Gemtech that makes suppressors). The lanyard itself is a plastic covered/coated elastic coil, similar to a telephone cord (remember those?), and has a QD belt attachment and an additional QD connector that lets you detach the lanyard portion from the belt attachment. Model is GemtechTRL (for Tactical Retention Lanyard) Specs say it has "two failsafe 85-lb. breakpoints" so it won't suck you into machinery or etc. I immediately replaced what I'd been using to tether my boat knife on my PFD with one of these. Were about $25 --- forgotten where...

It is the same GemTech ---www.gem-tech.com

Those break-points are something I never thought of. I'm going to go to the web page. Mucho thanks.

Edit:Just got back from their page. Looks like what I need.

Will it keep the gun from hitting the ground, like if it slipped out of my hand? I'm not sure how long the cord extends. I am a little on the longer leg type.

Before this lanyard question I thought I knew everything. Thanks for the help guys.

I like that, old tanker. Got three to consider now.

You can find new GI lanyards on ebay for under $5 bucks. What I used in the Army. Was around lost pistol incidents a couple times and made sure it never happened to me!
Didn't know Wilson made these. Might add one to my new SW1911.

I haven't had time to install it on the Kimber yet. When I do I'll post some pics.

It was about $55-56 something. Looks to be a quality piece.
