"The First Time Ever I saw Your Face", by Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis - The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face [HQ] - YouTube
In Paladin's poignant thread about the homeless guy with the dog, I posted a link to see Aussie actress Lara Cox portraying the plight of the homeless. The accompanying music is this song, which has been running through my head since.
I think Roberta Flack was the original singer, circa 1972. This example is by Leona Lewis. She does a good job.
It is a beautiful, haunting song, and I thought that some of you might like to hear it again.
Paladin is correct that a dog can be a great comfort in stressful times, but so can music. I hope this will prove soothing to any of you've had a rough day. Or, even if you had a great day!

That gal is good, but I like Roberta Flack's version back in 1972, but heck I'm old and don't know no better.

I have very fond memories of Roberta Flack's version in 1972/73 in Chicol Village, ROK and a bar called "The OB". However, there are other periods during the same time frame of which I have no memories. Keep shootin'

Yes, I Roberta's version best, it brings back memories of Savannah, Ga and a bar, and a lady. As I age memories come more meaningful.

Nope - the song was written by folk singer Ewan MacColl in 1957 for his future wife Peggy Seeger. Pete Seeger is her half-brother.
Ewan MacColl did not like the many cover versions of the song - he referred to them as "the chamber of horrors".

Homeless part II - YouTube
Here's the video with Lara Cox as the homeless girl. I'm not sure who sings the song, but she's good, and it somehow fits the video. Of course, Lara normally looks much better. She did this video as a charity project to raise conciousness for the homeless in her home country, Australia.
Lara Cox is not an actress known for her sordid life, as are many here. She seems very responsible and kind. Indeed, she once took a year off from her career to nurse a close friend who was seriously injured in an auto crash.
Anyway, the song is good, whoever sings it here.
Oh: Cowart: thanks for the origin of the song. Interesting.
