Help With Identification
I am new here and hope to have help in identifying a Topbreak 38 Cal. 5 Shot Revolver. It looks like a S&W but the barrel is 3 3/4", total length 8", and the trigger is shaped differently. Also, the insignia (logo) is not "S&W" but another that I am not familiar with. Also has engraved on the side " Trade Mark MG with a Crown in the middle." I have not been able to find any Top Breaks that have a 3 3/4" barrel. It has the usual checkered grip with Serial No. 1649 on the butt. Any help will be appreciated.

Looks like a European copy of a S&W, which was very common in the late 1800s. Are there any oval marks on the back of the cylinder with an ELG inside? That would be a Belgium copy. Let us know if you find any other marks. I am not familiar with the stamping on the sideplate. The crown looks like similar to Italian crown marks, but I don't recognize the letters. Maybe someone will reply witht the answer.

I agree with Glowe. It's definably not a S&W. The grip logo is very similar to the ones on S&W copies made in the Eibar area of Spain. If it's Spanish, it won't have the Belgian proofs. Ed.

That looks like a stylized Hermanos Orbea logo -- an Eibar gunmaker.

Top Break id.
The logo appears to be that of Guisola Bros., an Eibar copy.
Interesting point, the Guisola Bros. were I believe specifically mentioned in the Smith & Wesson law suit against patent infringement in the late 1890's.
