Can You Beat a College Professor--A Test
Subject: CAN YOU BEAT A COLLEGE PROFESSOR?
I did not find it that hard...got 27 out of 33 for a score of 81.82 percent.....You?
A Tough Test
This test is not supposed to be an easy one. (It’s very hard)
The website reports that average score was 49%
and college professors average about 55%.

Got 32/33. Profs only got 55%? That explaines a lot.
I would like to know what members of congress average, that might explain a lot more!

I got 27 out of 33 also.
The one I missed that I shouldn't have was the "of the people, by the people, and for the people" quote. I thought it was in the Constitution.

I got 29 out of 33 (87.88%), and I'm a Brit without the benefit of "Civics" classes at school. I point blank guessed some of the Constitution and Bill of Rights stuff based on what I thought reasonable and got them all correct. Interesting.

31 of 33.
But I think college profs are not a realistic yardstick. E.g., all Chemistry profs care about, typically, is Chemistry. I'd like to see how high school civics teachers fare -- well, I hope -- or Congressmen. That matters.
And congrats to LV Steve. Well done!

HS Government teacher here. 33/33 .
I think 55% would be a pretty good score for a non-history/poli-sci/economics professor. I had to narrow a couple of the economics type questions down to two possibles and guess from there.
I would also expect the membership of this board to average higher than the general population. We are older and for the most part (it seems) more politically aware than most folks. I am a member of another board that has a very active political forum. Most of the members claim to be very conservative to libertarian, but most of them depend on Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, etc. to do their thinking for them. Most of them don't have a clue about the political theory underpinning our system.

27 out of 33 also. The wording got me on a couple of those. As someone said if professors are averaging 55% that says a lot about our educational system.

Missed the Socrates question and missed the one about Government spending equalling taxes. I don't count the last one as a miss because their answer is incorrect. revenue=spending=no debt is the most logical answer-but in all candor none of the answers listed were correct.

Specific but narrowly focused knowledge ...
Subject: CAN YOU BEAT A COLLEGE PROFESSOR?
NOT surprised with that many are scoring above the average. The scores are not the Lake Woebegone Effect. The forum members usually have diverse knowledge.
Working directly with Professors at three universities, in professional staff positions, I became aware of the very subject specific, but narrowly focused knowledge, of many professors.
Many professors have only average, or less than average, knowledge of any subject outside of there specific field of concentration.

Revenue equal to Spending does not address the situation of any PRE-EXISTING DEBT.

Our regular teacher said there wouldn't be a quiz today.
And she said if the weather was nice we could have class outside today.

Most of the College Professors that I know are not originally from the United States, so I am not surprised.
Got 25/33, as my score. Enjoyed the "test."

Fun test, I've seen it here before.
Just one thing I'd like to point out:
Why would anyone expect a college math teacher to score well on this? So many college level (and any level) teachers are well versed in their area of study and that's all.
They should have just tested college history / social studies etc. teachers.
If I had a question on the Declaration of Independance I wouldn't as a physics teacher.

Very interesting. 26 of 33 here. Did very well with the historical and constitutional questions (as i should with a B.A. in history) The economic questions on the other hand, not so well.
The fact that most college professors only scored 55% is not a surprise to me. What is surprising is that the average Amerian managed to get 49% correct...

"revenue=spending=no debt is the most logical answer..." Well, no not really. If taxes paid equal spending, it does not mean there is no debt. It is entirely possible to have outstanding debt from a previous administration, which has all to often been the practice in the fed. govt. Even in those rare instances where a surplus has been run there has been outstanding debt. The one and only time the fed. govt. has not had outstanding debt was in Jan. 8, 1835. That was the result of Pres. Jackson selling fed. land.

31/33 + 93.94%. Read carelessly and marked square deal instead of new deal. Same carelessness resulted in my marking the right to bear arms as a constitutional right when the question pertained specifically to the first amendment where the correct answer from those offered was religion. That teaches me to read more carefully when answering such multiple choice questions.

32/33; one question I didn't read carefully. OTOH, there was another I wasn't sure of, so I guess the final score is reasonably accurate. College professors I don't expect that much of, outside their fields, but a HS teacher should probably get at least 28 or so. Obviously JMO.

32/33. Missed the free markets question. I must not have read it properly, since what they gave as the correct response I don't even remember being one of the possible answers.
Not bad for a guy with only a high school diploma, and who got it when Gerald Ford was president.
My high school had two American Government teachers. One was an admitted communist, the other was John Birch Society. Statisticians would say they averaged out.
I will give them one bit of credit, though. As seniors, most of us had part-time jobs, and the teachers spent a good deal of time going over taxes and IRS forms and how to fill them out. That was very helpful.

100% I taught high school History and Government for many years. If the test had been math, spelling or English grammar I would not have done so well.

You answered 28 out of 33 correctly — 84.85 %
Not bad, I guess.
