"Useless" Stuff you will Never get rid of
The "Men and their Toys" thread got me to Thinkin'
We all probably have Stuff Hanging around
that our significant others wonder why we keep it
So what have you collected thats not practical or exceptionally valuable
but you will never get rid of it?
I'll Start
A Copper Bolt, made by Paul Revere, and a piece of wood;
both from the USS Constitution
2 Revolutionary War cannon balls
My first Mac SE Computer

I still have a 1987 Mac Plus which is still working, what a power house, Apple Hard Disk 20SC- 20MB SCSI hard drive and 1MB RAM
Also have a little league bat that has been leaning in the same spot since 1979, near the front door.

80% of my man cave fits into this category! I have an old set of handcuffs from my first first LE job that I refuse to let go of (even though I only used 'em for 2-3 weeks), a broken side mirror from a Crown Victoria that I destroyed during a high speed pursuit that initiated at 12:00am on 01/01/00, a deer horn powder measure my Dad made for my .45 Kentucky Rifle when I was 10 years old, a bayonet for a US Springfield Trapdoor that I found in an old barn when I was a kid, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc. I could keep this up for hours. Which is probably why I have a man cave in the first place.

My school patrol captains badge, a State Patrol holster, belt, and speedstrip pouch set, my gold plated uniform buttons and belt buckle, and that 105mm recoilless rifle shell casing I mentioned in the other thread. No use for any of it but none of it is going anywhere.

Question for thought.
What happens to the stuff you will not get rid of when you pass away?
I promise you the next owner will not have any trouble throwing it away.

The two 1/24 die case models of my department's transport cars that I drove. The program from my graduation from academy for the sheriff's department. Tons of old photos of my grandfather's. My patch collection of all the other departments out there. There's more but that's all I can think of this early.

I have about 150 1/18 scale die cast cars, mostly in boxes now because I'd have to buy another house to have enough walls to display them. I have enough books I'll never get to read. Nut, bolts and gee gaws galore. A large amount of rust residing on the former objects. Boxes of things I can no longer remember what they went to or are for. But all this stuff must be important or I wouldn't have it around.

Stuff that hangs around. My first bible given to me in 1966 when I was 10 years old. My Boy Scout awards... including my Eagle Scout badges, etc. Sadly my Eagle Scout neckerchief (red, white and blue) grew legs and walked off... one Saturday afternoon... in a family member's purse. Guess she needed it more than I did. God bless her. My Kelly Perfect True Temper axe and my Plumb campers axe stand in the office near my gun cabinet. Only God knows how many trees I cut, how many stumps I dug and how much wood I split and sold using those axes. Recently I used them to split a pecan stump into firewood for a disabled church member. That stump amounted to a little over half a pick-up truck load. Stuff hanging around? A wool Pendleton shirt from the early 1960's that belonged to my uncle... then my identical-twin brother (deceased) and now me. A zip up jacket that belonged to my father. He glasses. Why do we keep such things? I don't know about others, but I keep they are touch points to my life.

I found an old SW/AM/FM radio from circa 1970 at a thrift store. I think that I spent around three dollars for it. It has the power of 13 transistors. Back in 1970, that was likely something to behold. I cleaned out the leaking old Sears brand C batteries in it and it works fine. I like the thing.

I think I have 100 of them, and I have no desire for any of them. They are not going anywhere, however. Can't let them go. A few of them are pretty cool.
For me, it's oddball S&W stuff. I have handcuff boxes, reciepts for laser engraving I never had done, poker chips, a shoehorn. I love S&W, and now it's getting out of control.

My grandfather's ice tongs when he delivered ice back in the 30s. Mom said once when the circus was in town, Papaw got his truck stuck in the mud and they used an elephant to pull him out.
My ancient fiber hardhat that I wore in the coal mines for eight years.
Plastic figurines of Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger, Tonto, Zorro, others I have had since I was a kid.
A rock my son brought back from the beach when he was five. His sisters had a basket of shells. He brought back one rock. It was all he could do to carry it.
Yep someone is going to have to deal with that stuff.

I still have most of the oddball **** my dad had before he died. Some of it is cool, but most of it makes me scratch my head. I'm not exactly using that part of the barn for anything else, though...

Broken Iver Johnson Champion 12 Ga. given to me by my grandfather 40- some years ago (I used to play army with it and my brother had a broken, bolt long ago gone, .22 to play with). My wife's grandfather's old picaroon. Some arrowheads given to me as a kid. My old matchbox cars and my old baseball cards (1966-1969 mostly) including my Nolan Ryan rookie card.

WWI Practice Shell
My late uncle Tony was a tank gunner in WWI. He gave me this practice shell made of heavy brass and wood. Not sure of the correct caliber, but it measures 34.6 mm. .45 ACP brass for scale.

How about my first computer.... TRS-80, fully loaded with 48K of memory, two floppy drives, expansion interface, systems desk, thermal printer and lots of software.
I keep telling my wife I would love to sell it, but I don't want to have to ship it anywhere. (actually, I don't wan't to pack it for shipment...)

We are just the caretakers of our stuff, What happens to it when I'm gone will be of no concern to me at that point but I hope the ones left behind will be the new caretakers!
Now hopefully they will keep what is dearest and profit from what is not.
Stuf I got,,,let's see? Hmmmm...
2 different stock certificate shares from the Tucker car company which I believe one of them is actualy signed by Mr. Tucker.
I have a pewter Starship Enterprise collection, I've always liked the ship, no I'm not a Trekkie.
I have a fantastic collection of Hard Rock Cafe pins I started to collect has we traveled. People I know that travel overseas get them for me as well.
I have pair my great great grandmothers glasses,,, go figure?
I think the list could really go on but my dearest is my gun collection and my Corvette.
My son gets to be the keeper of my guns and my daughter gets to become the keeper of the Vette.

I don't usually fess up to this but I have the 1st color tv I ever bought. RCA--nice maple cabinet--about 5 ft long--turntable on one end and radio on the other--nice lift up tops. Bought it in 1964 when about 3 programs on tv was color. I catch a lot of flap for some of the stuff I got, but it is all good stuff. As far as what happens after I'm gone it don't matter to me.

Wow, those tapes bring back memories! I always loved how the 8 tracks would be right in the middle of a great song, fade out, go "KACHUNK!", and then fade back in.....

Macs! Up in the attic I have the 512K "Fat Mac" I waited six months to buy in 1984 because I didn't think the initial 128K version had enough oomph. A chip on the motherboard went bad in 1991 and I had to retire it. Why do I still have it? I dunno. I guess I expect it will come back to life. I wrote a lot of stuff on that little computer, and wasted a lot of hours playing Crystal Quest, too. And Daleks.
I bought it with a wide-platen Imagewriter so I could print multi-column spreadsheets. That's up there, too.
And a bunch of other stuff. If I didn't actually throw junk away from time to time, I would be a textbook hoarder.

You and me both. Classic rock never die. Grand Funk Railroad is also my Favorite band. I know BOC is still going but I miss the original members. There was a private joke that since Buck and Eric are the only original members left they're called Two Oyster Cult. Buck is underrated as a guitarist. He can smoke 'em. Check out the solo.

Lots of little things.
My Dad's wallet, his aviator glasses, his Navy Chief pin, a sperm whale tooth (it's impressive) from his dental office, my grandpa's SxS 12ga.
I've got a couple crucifixes Dad made from dental gold, one white and one yellow. I wear the white gold one.
All my Dad's tools, and my own.
Reloading and casting equipment, my 1972 Ital Vega Nuovo Record road bike I bought with paper route money.
My first Rolex, FIL's 1920's mail box mounted in oak box.
Today a friend gave me a piece of the deck of the USS Iowa, probably add that to the list.
Got a big chunk of the Berlin wall with original graffiti on it, keeping that too.

A plastic frog that my son (deceased) sent me when I was going through my divorce. He was 9 at the time. I look at it daily.

I think this will qualify as useless, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

That's not useless, it's living proof that the jackalope exists.
