M1 Garand Books: Recommendations anyone?
Since I own several Garands I was hoping that someone could recommend some good books on the history and development of the M1. I'm particularly interested in the earlier prototypes developed by John Garand. Thanks.

Scott Duff is pretty much one of the most knowledgable authors on Garands.

Yes, Scott Duff's book is excellent. Another good author is Bruce Canfield.

Hatcher's Book of the Garand is the old standby. He was there during most of the rifle's development. It's particularly good on the trials that went on up to the adoption of the M1. It's somewhat dated, as he doesn't mention the Korean War manufacture of the M1. Billy Pyle's book "Gas Trap Garands" deals with a lot more than the gas traps; it's a Collector's Grade Publication. Scott Duff and Bruce Canfield deal mainly with the minutae of the various versions. We really need a good book on the M1 like William Brophy's books on the Springfield,Krag and Marlin.
