Another rock & roller gone...
Just read on the web that Ronnie Montrose died, wow, guess I'm getting old, 1st Davy Jones, (yeah, they were cheesey, but I was about 12 when they came out and liked their stuff, still sing along when one of their songs comes on) and now Montrose. I'm listening to his album on my computer now. RIP Ronnie, and thanks for the jams...

Yes we are all getting old. To Mr. Montrose, " get on your bad motorscooter and ride " RIP. Battled with prostate cancer like my dear old Dad. He played with the likes of Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and Sammy Hagar. Great Rock Guitarist, 25

Bad Motorscooter and Rock the Nation, two tunes deserving of the 11 setting on any stereo. RIP Ronnie.

Back in '74 I worked as a Stage Hand at a local venue and Montrose headlined an outdoor show with something like 10,000 in attendance.
About half-way through Montrose' set the crowd started to push towards the stage so they put us Stage Hands in between the stage & crowd. While I thought resistance was futile I took my place right smack in front of Ronnie about 10' away from him.
Us Stage Hands were facing the stage holding hands forming what amounted to a human chain. While I stood there I watched as Ronnie did, among others, Space Station No. 5 & Bad Motor Scooter. It was so loud that, just for the heck of it, I screamed as loud as I could and still couldn't hear myself in my own head.
What a day. I worked from 7 a.m. 'til 2 the following morning and got paid a whole $10.....
I was the Stage Hand assigned specifically to Montrose that day, essentially being their "go-fer" and when tearing down after the show their head Roadie asked if there was anything I wanted.
I asked for, and was given, one of Ronnie's Guitar Strap's and some of his picks, which I gave to the Guitar Player in the band I was in at the time.
Ronnie was a true, hard rockin' guitar player,
may he rest in peace, quiet restful peace.....

Sadly, this reminds me I still haven't found the second "Montrose" album on CD yet, the one with "Town Without Pity" on it. I can listen to that album over and over and never tire of it. I never felt Ronnie got the recognition he deserved for being innovative and raw when everyone else seemed to be getting mellow and nostalgic.
Ogy, that is a VERY cool story. We liked it LOUD back then, didn't we?
I SAID, WE LIKED IT...........ah, never mind.

Ronnie Montrose was a great one, I only got to see him once in 1989 in a small club in Tulsa. He tore it up for 2 hours. I've got a pretty decent collection of his music from Montrose, Gamma, and his solo albums, it's all good. RIP Ronnie.

RIP Ron and Davy.
The 60s and the 70s rock are the classics (for me).
I played the classics on my guitar but it is lost on this generation. What a shame.

That's gonna be awful, seeing them in wheelchairs and walkers. LOL.
That reminds me of the movie, Still Crazy, where the band, Strange Fruit, are banding together after 20 years. If y'all haven't seen that movie, you ought to.

Things happen in threes ... or so it is said. Two weeks before Davy Jones died, Michael Davis passed away. Michael was a dear friend of mine, as well as the bass player for the MC5 (Kick Out the Jams). Our musical heroes and compatriots are getting older, and we're gradually losing them.

I'm sorry to hear that.
A close friend of mine used to visit Michael at his place out in, if I'm not mistaken, Arizona.....
I'll have to let him know that Michael passed........
