I am curious...
Do many of you use gun socks on your revolvers/pistols during storage? I currently do, but I wonder about impeding airflow around the guns.
Do silicone impregnated gun socks help or hurt?

I voted "unsure."

My blued guns sleep in a gunsock inside a fleecy rug. I don't really have the space for nice racks & such. I've heard that gun rugs over time can hold moisture & cause corrosion. Guns I don't shoot much get a good oily wipedown from time to time then into the sock.

Presently my accumulation is small enough that they all get handled occasionally.

I've actually seen the effects of holster & foam case storage on blued weapons. YIKES!

I make my own using microfiber towels.

Thanks guys. Let's hear more opinions.

I have used silicone treated gun socks for many many years.
I now need several additional and thought, "I really wonder whether these really help at all?"
The ding protection is nice, but might they encourage rust by preventing air flow?

The microfiber towel is a good idea!

I would re-consider using anything that had cotton in it. Cotton can hold moisture right up next to your finish.
While I rather enjoy the contents of a Crown Royal bag...
I would be wary if it has any cotton in it? It might?

I'm not sure if they hinder or promote rust but they do help with dings in the safe.

Plus one.
I keep the handguns in rugs, the rifles in socks. All get wiped down with a bit of gun oil before going in.I have experienced no issues with any of them.

I read some fantastic testimonys on them by several people that had fires and lost guns without them and had guns with the socks on in the safe along side them that wernt hurt. That sold me, now I have most my guns in them.

I had not thought of that benefit.

Yep , I have them on most of my handguns and long guns. I respray them with a good grade of silicone every year or so.

I have all my stored guns in silicone guns socks but never thought about respraying or even the need to ! ,Thanks mkk41!
however i am not sure if it helps with moisture but i am sure it helps protect from dings and scratches

The way I look at it , works just like respraying a tent. Silicone repels humidity. If the sock is well sprayed , it won't attract or absorb humidity. And it gets very humid around here. My Socked guns still reside in safes equipped with GoldenRods.
