Well, if you HAVE to have a Colt, that's a good enough choice. I only have one:

This picture shows how to shoot a Colt.
This is the Colt, a .38 spec. Diamondback. It was so pretty and so cheap I couldn't help myself.

I have 4 single action armys, a scout, 2 troopers and two pythons. They are all fine guns and except for one, I have owned most of them for 30 years or more. The problem is they no longer are building DA revolvers and legend says they go out of time quicker than smiths and that there isnt many gunsmiths out there that know them well. You cant prove it by me though as I never had to have one worked on.

Colt/Rem UMC rebuild:
1978 Colt Python:
2nd generation Colt SAA, .45 Colt with 1st generation hammer, and a re-finish including color case hardening by John Kopec. It was originally a .357 Magnum and if I knew then what I know now, it would still be.

Like Lee said,if you've only got one, that's a good one to have! I've got one or two myself.
This is the "newest" one.
And this is the oldest one. It's 100 years old.

I have enjoyed shooting the "snake" series -- Python (2), Anaconda, Diamondback (3 -- 2 are .22 cal, 1 is .38 cal) and Cobra. I also have two Colt Officer models (1 to shoot, 1 in presentation grade).
Have one other "snake" - a Mamba (South-African mfg .45 auto) --
My wife keeps a Colt Agent in her nightstand drawer -- very easy for her to handle. The others have pretty much stayed in the safe long term since I shoot my S&W weapons regularly.

Hi:
As a rule, the Colt revolver "Out of Time" cylinder issue can be corrected by straighting the hand. This condition is usually caused by the revolver being dropped and landing on the backstrap (due to the balance of the Colt) which bends the hand. An Armorer will lay the hand on a flat hard surface and strike it with a smooth hand maul. At other times the simple solution is to replace the hand.

Boy, Oh Boy!
I've owned every double action Colt revolver and every auto loader they ever produced, right up to the mid 1980's. A few 1st. generation single actions have come and gone as well, over the years. They were all excellent in all respects and I neither regret having bought them...or having sold most of them, as my interests (fickle mistress gun collecting is) changed. I agree with feralmerril, it has become increasingly harder to find local gunsmiths familiar with Colt Revolver work and as many of you know, these guns are not manufactured with interchageable "drop in" parts. It takes skill and experience to work on them correctly. There are probably a small handfull of truly competent Colt revolver gunsmiths left across the country...and that is problematic for a shooter. The only exception is the 1911's, easier to work on, plenty of parts floating around too. Just my 2 cents worth. Also wanted to say the photos you guys posted are damn fine!
Cheers;
Lefty (the unrepentent Colt lover....now there, I said it!)

C word picks
I just confessed on the Colt forum that my first gun love
was Smith & Wessons; now I have to confess on this forum
that I have more than a few Colts. Not really a problem, is it?
Regards,
turnerriver
