In a galaxy far, far, away once upon a time, a long time ago I purchased a Gateway DC-T50 digital camera with 5.25 megapixels. It was "state of the art" back in the day. Yesterday, I was preparing to photo a "new to me" 2nd model 44HE when fumble fingers (me) dropped the darn thing! Now all it will do is tell me "card protected". It operates as usual according to its menu, but will not take a photo. Does anyone have one of these things and do you know who can fix it!!!???. Gateway no longer has anything to do with them. It was a great camera for my simple needs. HELP! Went to Sams Club and a like functional Snapshot Cannon is $399.99. This may be my next "SMITH". Your help is appreciated!

This is a wild guess but,

Some memory sticks have a little window with a sliding cover. If it is in one position it protects the stick from being over written, the other it works fine. Perhaps the impact of the drop moved the little piece on the stick? Pull the stick and see where it is, often it has a little picture of a lock either locked or unlocked. it can be hard to see.

Good Luck!

I upgraded due to clumsiness recently and my main requirement was that it operates on AA batteries. I'm familiar with Sony but open to whatever....gimme a deal.

Hard to find AA powered cameras anymore. Most use a weirdo proprietary batt/charger that is just something else to keep up with. Amazon had a sony dsc -S2100 that suited me for $80. I bought it and I like it.

Wheelgun 28

Wheelgun, you were 100% RIGHT ON. The little tab on the memory chip slides up/down on the side of the chip. The drop caused it to lock. You just saved me $400 bucks. Camera works just fine! Thank you!!! I owe ya!
