Question How to get Tenifer done outside the US? (legally)

The laws prohibit Tenifer being done in the US. Glocks are no longer done with this finish. How would I get a slide done in this finish? Can you send it to a company and get it back into the US legally if at all? Any ideas? I'd like to Tenifer a few slides from non-Glock semi-autos. Some say melonite is almost as good, but I'd prefer the original if at all possible.

Tenifer is nothing but a method of case hardening steel which makes it VERY hard and corrosion resistant. The finish is in addition to that, and can vary. The Tenifer finish is under the final black finish. The Tenifer protects from corrosion and goes into the surface of the steel parts. ( Barrel AND slide are Tenifer on them)

The Tenifer does NOT wear off as it goes INTO the metal.

The new Glocks are still Tenefir finished under the topcoat, which is some manganese phosphate or something?

So if you are needing your slide finish freshened up, It is not the Tenifer you need done. That part doesn't "go away"..... it's that phosphate or whatever they call it coating that you need done....

Tenifer and Melonite are both forms of salt bath ferritic nitrocarburizing. The names are trade names for very similar if not identical processes.

The difference in the process is in the details, whether one is superior to the other is probably more opinion than science. I expect large companies have their own individual specifications for the treatment as well.
Done aftermarket you might or might not get the same or a better job.

Here is a quote from an industrial finishing forum:
“Tennifer and Melonite are trade names for firearm finishing processes that involve salt bath nitriding. The heart of the matter is probably licensing rights rather than technology. I do not have any special inside information, but I believe that Glock will not let the supplier license the Tennifer name to any other firearms manufacturer; therefore, other firearms manufacturers are using a similar finish but from other chemical suppliers or under different tradenames.”
