Default K frames

I always thought that all k frames were alike. In other words, grips for one k frame gun would fit all k frame guns. Apparently not, I have a set of grips that fit fine on my Model 66-2, but will need some adjusting to fit my Model 17-3. Is this fairly normal? Thanks.

Is one gun a round butt and the other a square butt? This would cause an issue.

The grips were originally fitted to a particular gun during final polish. It is uncommon for them to perfectly fit another gun. Applies to all S&W frames.

Sorry, should have included more info. Both guns are square butt.

These are aftermarket Target grips.

boykinlp, the M12, airweight, has stocks that will not fit other K frames. Although other K frame stocks will fit the M12, there will be a gap at the top of the stocks between the frame and the stock. M12 frames are thinner than other K frames.
