Questions about buying guns in Florida
Good afternoon:
I'll be attending a week long conference in Florida in a couple of weeks and may try to visit some local pawn/gun shops in my off time. I am a Texas state resident with a CHL and was wondering if anyone could advise me on the following:
1. What are the laws regarding purchase of a handgun by a non-Florida resident? (I would have any firearms I purchased shipped to my Texas FFL)
2. I'll be in the Lake Buena Vista area - any recommended pawn/gun shops in that area I should check?
Thanks for your help and advice.
Regards,
Dave

If you have a copy of your Texas dealer's license with you, so you could give it to the Florida dealer, legally he could sell you a pistol, take your money, and then ship the gun to your dealer in Texas, for you to pick up when you get back home.
Legally.
Unfortunately, some people are morons, and will insist, "No, you are a Texas resident, you can't buy a gun in Florida" (I had this problem at the Cabelas in Wisconsin. He just flat-out refused. Said it was illegal).
Just gotta give it a try and see what happens.
I'd take several copies with me, if I were you. There is no limit to how many you can buy.

Hi Alpo:
I'm not a FFL dealer. I do have a Texas CHL - if that helps. From your post, it doesn't sound like this will benefit me.

Dave

No, your concealed permit/license does not matter (in any State).
You can purchase a gun but as mentioned the dealer here would have to ship it to a dealer in your home State.( I think Alpo was saying have a copy of the Texas FFL you would ship it too) I do not know why you would want to do that? Seems it would add a lot to the overall price.
Shortage of guns in Texas??

When I said " your dealer's license", I did not mean "the license that belongs to you", I meant "your gun pusher's license". The license of the dealer you buy from. Because you can't buy a pistol in Florida and take it with you. You have to pick it up from an FFL in Texas.
So, if you were in Texas, and went online and saw a good deal at Joe's Gunshop, in Two Egg, you could write Joe, make a deal to buy the gun, and mail him your check along with a copy of the license belonging to your gun dealer , and then Joe would ship it to your dealer, where you go do the paperwork and pick it up.
By the same token, if you were in Two Egg, and walked into Joe's and saw a pistol you wanted, and had a copy of the license belonging to your gun dealer , you could give Joe the copy and he could then ship the gun to Texas, so you could do the 4473 when you got back home.
Hope that cleared up any confusion.

Well, town might stretching it a bit, since both of the country stores are now closed down.
My mom and dad actually live in Two Egg.

If you get here next weekend there is a dandy gun show at the Lakeland Center Apr 21&22. Easy shot down I4, about 50 miles each way. You'd have to put a rubber chicken on yer head so we know who you are, of course. Seriously, you only need a receiving FFL who can fax a copy to the seller in Fl. Guns aren't cheaper here than at home, demand is quite high here. Joe

Why in the world would I make it up? That would be like making up Greenhead or New Hope MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map
or Sopchoppy Sopchoppy, Florida (FL 32358) profile: population, maps, real estate, averages, homes, statistics, relocation, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, moving, houses, news, sex offenders
Ain't you got neat town names in your section of the state?

Okay, I think I've got a pretty good handle on this now. Thank you to everyone who responded. I like to take long walks in the evening, and I think I remember seeing a couple of pawn shops the last time I visited. I'll let ya'll know if I find something while I'm down there.
Regards,
Dave

Guns are really high priced in Florida, many shops are total ripoffs, and the shows aren't much better. Stick to buying in Texas, you probably have better stuff.

I haven't read it yet, but I do intend to. Dale is a personal friend of mine who has written several books on Southern/Florida/Jackson County history, and is an excellent author. His church did a play based on the book this past Christmas, and it was packed out every night. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Here's a link to a blog that Dale does on the Civil War. You can read about some of his other books on there as well.
