Weathers usually beautiful that time of year, with a chance of snow. The rivers up in the hills will have good fishing as will Boulder creek going out onto the plains. If he's a fly fisherman send him north up the Poudre canyon. The only range I know of is the Boulder Rifle Club, but it's private with a very long waiting list. They are open for hunter sight in during the fall,so it's worth calling them for the exact dates. Its an expensive town with lots to do and loads of pretty girls. He'll have fun Tell me about Boulder, Co.

My son will be busy so I don't know how much free time he will have but since he will be close I thought I would make the trip. The fishing is for me.

All the local mtn streams are small and have smallish brookies, rainbows and maybe a fewcuttbows. The larger fish will be in Boulder creek out on to the plains if you don't mind urban fishing the first few miles. The St Vrain in Lyons was good for bigger fish, but I doubt it's recovered from last years flooding.Poudre canyon, which is north of Fort Collins is fantastic in the fall and is about 40 miles of free flowing river. If you're after warm water fish, try Sawhill Ponds out east of town.

Weather should be warm during the days, with cool to cold nights. Usually windy in Boulder.

If you do head far up the Poudre, you might want to carry and keep your eyes open for moose. They can be a bit pushy.

The Republic of Boulder is a different kinda place. You can't own a pet there, you can only be its guardian.

I've lived in Boulder for over 20 years, it's gorgeous, I just ignore the hippy's.

My SIL is a graduate of the "Rocky Mountain Chef's of Colorado", curious if your son is part of that program ?

The end of September is the best time here, warm sunny days and cool nights. Yes it could snow, but our Indian Summers are grand.

That time of year, a drive up the canyon (119) to Nederland across the Peak to Peak to Estes, down the Big Thompson or north up to the Poudre and around are spectacular as the Aspens are changing.

Fishing is everywhere, depends on what your after. The "public" ranges are expensive IMO. We shot for years in the national forest which surrounds most of the route I described, they've closed a few areas, 4x4 helps find the others. I belong to a range in Weld County, bit of a drive from here, but its always been a drive to go shoot here.

If you have specific questions or need info, you can PM me, I'd been playing around here long before I moved here permanently.

My boy's in school out there and loves it. September should be a good month; autumn on the Front Range, what's not to like? Sightseeing in the mountains west of town if nothing else. They call the local range the "Flat Irons" because of the resemblance they bear to the old household implement/Monopoly board piece.

Apropos of nothing in particular, he says Boulder is becoming pretty well known as a "foodie" town. Lots of good eats there, apparently.

Pearl Street is the main drag; you won't want to miss it. Very pedestrian-friendly, and lots of "interesting" folks to see and places to duck into.

Boulder is the California of the Rockies. Both of my sisters fittingly live there. Don't miss the Boulder iconic Naked Pumpkin Run. Also, although the state provides for CHL, there are local limitations such as carrying a handgun into an open park. Beautiful land, goofy handgun rules.

In Colorado we think of Boulder as 40 square miles surrounded by reality. Filled with left-leaning folks trying to californicate Colorado.

It's difficult for me- a Ft. Collins kind of guy- to be objective about Boulder.
Boulder as stated above, is California in the Rockies.
It's great place to visit and dine, but then I'm done.
Do they still have that great old honky tonk over at Louisville?
That's the first place I ever saw and met Gatemouth Brown.

I grew-up in the hills 5 minutes outside Boulder and am currently living there now with my family- lots of normal people still live here!

Boulder is a beautiful town, with great food and activities on the Pearl Street Mall. Boulder Canyon is a great access point for the Front Range- go to Nederland and cruise the Peak-to-Peak Highway from Central City/Black Hawk to Estes Park. Make sure to visit Gunsport Colorado, one of the finest gun shops in Colorado, right in downtown Boulder.

And sorry the statement "Also, although the state provides for CHL, there are local limitations such as carrying a handgun into an open park. Beautiful land, goofy handgun rules" is completely WRONG! Concealed carry, with valid permit is fully allowed, in all parks and non-K-12 public property.

I live just outside Boulder and all I can say it Boulder and the rest of the State is a great place to be. Beautiful weather, gorgeous scenery, a lot to do and see and nice people.

While Boulder may have their more than fair share of Liberals....try going into Gunsport (the one gun shop) in Boulder on any given Saturday and the place is packed. Contrary to popular opinion, Liberals buy guns too. Finally, you may be surprised to know that open carry is legal in Boulder, maybe not popular, but it is legal.

An awful lot of people that don't live in Boulder seem to know all about it lol,but I only lived there for about 40 years. Its a great place and there are quite a few conservative, libertarian and entreprenurail types around. They don't fit the stereotype so we don't here about them.

If it helps its just for a few days to visit with son who will be there and some time off for myself. Gunshops will be visted along with a trap range if there is one open to the public. Fishing will be for sure activity.
