We took our boy to tour the USS DeWert (FFG-45) during fleet week 2012 (commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner). As I served aboard the USS John L Hall (FG-32) and indeed first came to New Orleans aboard her, we chose to tour the Frigate of the same class as the JLH so that he could see where his daddy used to work.

It took two and a half hours to go through security to get aboard... as you can see Isaiah was a silly ball of energy by the time we took pictures. Even so... he did very well considering. The tour sure brought back a flood of memories for me.

They even had some really cool "tall ships" that we didn't get around to seeing up close.

Good post. I was on the U.S.S. Springfield CLG7. I got to go aboard her in N.O. around 1970 a couple of years after I got out. She was parked in the same spot this ship is at. They scrapped her not long after that.
