Sgt. Preston
I noticed this show on one of the off channels last week and after watching a few episodes realized that it isn't half bad, it sure beats some of the other stuff on TV.

Sgt. Preston was great, his lead dog was Yukon King. He was the first cop to carry a Glock

"well, King, this case is closed."
"Arf, arf!"
I don't recall seeing the TV show, but I did try to catch the radio show. Liked it.

WOW - King is on again?
One of my 3 favorites that are never seen anymore...
Sargent Preston
Rin-Tin-Tin
Adventures In Paradise
Rin-Tin-Tin was a retired WWII combat dog, btw, who went on to make movies.
Kinda like the K9 Audie Murphy Except Audie never had his own TV show....

David,
Thanks for the reminder...Always enjoyed that show.
Guess cause of the dogs and all the mushin...In the past,
I've hunted with a few fellers that were mushers.
One of 'em, if I remember right ran the Iditarod a couple times,
as well as the race across the Great Bear Lake up in that North Country.
Su Amigo,
Dave

I remember, barely, Sky King when it was probably already reruns on Sat. mornings, circa 1965-66. Also Fury. My dad watched Mr. Lucky. Craig Stevens, I think? I think Annie Oakly looked too old to dress like a twelve year old. I like Karen Valentine as a kid. But that was later on a little.

I remember watching both those shows.
We have/had a member that went by Sgt Preston, have not seen any post by him in a long time. Used to hang out in reloading. Always had good things to say.

Huh?
Just watch the show - You can see him talk --- Duh
BTW - I already knew that Lassie was a cross dresser - Hollywood ya know...
I've also heard that King on Sgt. Preston was played by a pro basket ball player who's BB career was ended by a knee injury.
He was (obviously) one of THEE greatest actors of all time.
This was back when MakeUp Artists were REAL Artists!

Another trivia: Mr Ed wasn't a horse! He was a zebra! Something to do with how early B & W TV worked, they had to use a zebra and filter it. Also, zebras are actually black with white stripes.

King of the Royal Mounted! I remember listening to the series back when TV didn't have a picture... they called it "radio."

"The episode next week will be a very unusual one, I hope you
join us and remember, a car doesn't kill, the driver does."
A couple of months back I bought the box set for both
Adam12 & Highway Patrol, as well as Combat!.
My wife & I usually watch a few Highway Patrol's & Adam12's during the
week but I'm the one who watches The LT., Sgt. Saunders, Kelly, Littlejohn,
Billy, Caje, Doc & the rest of the squad take on the Germans.

You're about 6 weeks late, April 1st has come and gone. Last weekend my wife and I were watching Roy Rogers reruns. After the begining of the thrid one she turned to me and asked "So how did Trigger get higher billing than Dale?" I pointed out that it was the 50's the marketing was prepuberty boys.

As a kid, I sent away for a Sergeant Preston of the Yukon Geiger Counter. The promotion went through Quaker Oats, the little gadget would buzz if you touched something made of steel.
Wish I still had it, pretty neat little toy.

In the early 70's, I think it was Windjammer that used to run a dinner cruise out of Honolulu aboard Barquentine Californian which was the Tiki from Advantures In Paradise. They would take you out by motor to Diamond Head and then rig the sails to come back in while serving dinner and Mai Tais.

One of the absolutely WORST filmed, edited and sound series of the early 1950's B&W series day. I think it absolutely sucked.

Broadrick Crawford was fat and stupid. The part I hated was how he'd have a half dozen highway patrolmen out shooting with their 6" revolvers and he'd whip out his little 2" snub and down the bad guy at 50 yards, first shot. Guess he could shoot better than me'n you.
Wouldn't mind have'n one of those old cruisers.

SGT Preston always got his man -- but what I wanted to see him do when I was 12 yrs old -- hook up with a hot cowgirl from Calgary or a
cute French Quebecqois -- that was not to happen.
Of course, if the banal Hollywood writers of 2012 were to bring SGT Preston's series back to life, we would have episodes like:
"SGT Preston and the cross-dressing polar bears"
"SGT Preston and the Manitoba Fats incident"
"SGT Preston and the felonious narwhales"
"Yukon King gets neutered by a steel wolf leg trap" (this episode sponsored by Greenpeace)
"SGT Preston and the 3-eyed Inuituit
But the real burning question in my 12-year old mind was:
Was Sky King's airplane an allegory representing a woman?????
Give that one some deep thought....................................................

Deadaye I remember watching "Adventures in Paradise" on friday nights in 60 or 61 it seems like it starred Gardner McKay also on Sky King the first "Songbird" twin engine was a UC78 Cessna also called a bamboo bomber, the old tv series were very good as compared to what we have now. Jeff

I listened to Sgt. Preston on the radio. And later watched him on TV. He was/is one of my all time favorites.
Mr. Ed a Zebra? Nah, no way! He was a horse. I heard him say so.

My parents liked "Cannon" with William conrad who was considered too fat to play Matt Dillon on TV like he did on radio. I watched "Cannon" shoot down a small plane taking off with a S&W Cheif's Special. The plane was in the air a hundred yards away or more.

The "howling Yukon wind" was actually a cat with his tail caught in a radiator fan blade. I think the cat's name was Manx or Stubby or Nubbin or some such.

Saw a couple episodes of Sgt. Preston and Yukon King from 1956 this weekend on the Rural TV Network. Really took me back. I think Sgt.Preston called his horse Rex. Had forgotten that. Also watched a Roy Rogers movie(Bells of Rosarita, 1945) and another with Tex Ritter on the same network.
