One of my Uncles down in Arkansas was a notorious poacher. The Game Warden and probably half the county knew this rumor but the Game Warden could never catch him in the act.

Some times the Warden would sneak out to my Uncles house a few hours before dawn thinking he would follow him when he left the house. My Uncle always knew he was there. He'd step out on the porch and yell "Come on in Warden, it's time for breakfast and I put extra on for you." Knowing there was no sense in staying in the brush any longer the Warden would go in and have breakfast.

Warden tried the same thing a few evenings thinking he'd follow my Uncle and catch him spotlighting deer. But my Uncle somehow knew the Warden was out there and he'd walk out on the porch and holler "Come on in and have some dinner Warden, I made extra for you." The Warden would give up and go in and have dinner with my Uncle.

When the Warden heard my Uncle was on his death bed he went to pay his respects. "Seeing as your hunting days are almost over, the Warden asked, would you PLEASE tell me how you always knew I was hiding outside your house?" "Warden, says my Uncle, I didn't know you was there. I went out on my porch before EVERY meal and hollered for you to come on in."

I don't want to appear any more stupid than I already do, but, just a good joke or any truth to it?

RightArm, as you know, if he posted it on the internet, it has to be true. Al Gore said so.

I don't know. We only saw the Arkansas side of the family once a year when I was growing up in the 60's and early 70's. I consider it a strong possible that the story may be true.

Knowing Arkansas people I kind of believe it's a true story.

My mother's side of the family is from Arkansas. My cousin did one of those family background genolity thingies.

She found out the "Boyett's, (mother's family) were run out of Lousiana for stealing hogs.

I thought it was funny and believable, but my cousin got "disowned".

There are a lot of places where the family tree don't fork.

Hard to say. It`s like the time my old uncle was bragging about shooting a huge buck out of season. A guy overheard him and said, "Do you know who I am?" No said uncle. I am the game warden he said. My uncle replied, "Ya know who I am?" No said the warden. Well I am the biggest liar in waushara county!
