Ithaca Model 37?
High Standard D-200?
Remington Model 31?
Are you just collecting Winchesters?

P.S. Very nice three-some!

Nice couple shotguns. I like the blackpowder 1893 Winchester pumpaction. I do own a 1897. They are banned in Holland and I can't shoot anywhere with this fine shotgun.

I shot it for the last time last year and was standing till my anckles in 350 empty shotshell cases. That was fun.

Now I have to wait for an other occasion when I can do that again.

Don't ask me why the shotgun is banned. This is Holland, that explains something. Gunlaw here is based on emotion and public opinion rather than common sense.

Please stain your prop rods, they clash.

I am looking for one. The plastic junk they sell now is awful

I have a M 500 and R 870 ("new versions") and compared to the old ones they are garbage.

I have had a nice Winchester Model 12, very nice gun and a Ithaca 37 20-inch barrel. I still am looking for a Winchester 1897 in nice shape that is either a short barrel or can be cut down to that nice 20-inch length. I still want to play around with an Auto-5 or Remington Model 11 that can be cut down or is already there.

Oddly, I have three also. A Savage 69RXL, an 870, and an Ithaca 37 DS PS. The first two are geniune retired PD guns. The 870 is so old that it only takes 2 3/4 inch shells. The Ithaca is newer production and has plastic furniture. If I could find it and afford it, I'd get retro wood and give it the "Adam 12" look.

I really like that model 31. The action feels like it is on rollers.

Stevens 520
20inch bbl.

Gun started out as a 30inch Full choked $90 special at a show. Good mechanics and bore,,shabby outside.
Lightly pitted, w/some cold blued metal, Solid but dented and scraped up wood.

Couldn't hit anything with it. So I made a riot gun of it.

Cut the 30" full choke bbl and moved the orig brass bead back.
I got carried away and then decided to polish it up using belts only ,,no hand polishing.
Then try out a slightly different finishing process on it that I've been wanting to try, though it's still a cold rust blue finish. Turned out OK. Needs some tweaking though before I use it on someones Westley Richards.
Of course the wood was looking left out. So I re-did that. Again all machine sanded. A 3 coat Homer Formby Tung Oil finish over a coating of walnut stain (alcohol base,,it drys fast).
Then a couple of thin linseed coats on top of the slightly dulled down varnish. A little coloring added into the grain so it doesn't look yesterday new.
A quick do-over of the now worn looking checkering was in order, so that too got attended to.
The Bbl is remarked CYL from it's original FULL. Shoots nicely, but to be honest, I still can't hit much more with it now than when it was original.
But it was something easy and different for a quick change of pace.
A good test piece for a few new things I wanted to try.

1-Win 1300
2-Win 1300 marine
3-Three Ithaca 37's
4-Three 870's (one with 12" barrel")
5-High Standard marked "Biloxi Police #9 (no serial number)
6-S&W 3000.

Some of these are police marked, some not. One of the 870's goes to work with me every day. The high cap Ithaca lives next to my bed. The short 870 is hidden near the back door. One of the Ithaca's is just like their trench gun with the heat shield/bayonet lug. (bayonets are no longer an acceptable form of crowd control in this country) I've had this one for over 40 years. It was shipped to Hattiesburg Police Dept. in 1962. These things just sort of show up. Collecting riot guns can be a lot less expensive than some other stuff. I never leave a round in the barrel. Racking that first round can be very intimidating and will sometimes end a fight before it starts.

The late Don Zutz, a shotgun authority and one of our best gun writers, told me that he definitely preferred the action of the M-31 to that of the Winchester M-12.

Lot of things are legal in Holland that aren't legal here and visa versa.

I'm glad we can still have a model 1897.

However, shotguns with a magazine that holds six rounds are banned in New York City.

Didn't want to take my nice old 870 wingmaster out to hunt squirrels. Bought a 870 express as it was almost cheaper than a new remington barrel. Dealer at our local gun shows usually has a bunch of used 870 police shotguns for cheap $$$. Liked the first one so much I bought another. Cleaned all the rust off, redid the wood. All on wingmaster frames. They work just as smooth as my old wingmaster. Got both for less that $225 apeice. Frank

Several years ago I got a nice deal on a Savage 69RXL ex police shotgun. I like the gun, but it's not overly reliable for some reason. One of these days I'll bring it to a gunsmith and see what it needs. For now, it's a safe queen that comes out once and a while for a range day.

About 3 years of so ago I was at a LGS with a friend of mine who was a lifelong collector, shooter, and FFL. The shop had about a dozen police trade in Remington 870s. They were old enough that they would only chamber 2 3/4" shells, but had mostly sat in cruiser trunks. I picked out the best of the bunch, it had great looking metal, but beat up furniture. I took it apart, cleaned it, sanded and refinished the furniture, and it's good as new.

Since I'm an Adam 12 fan, I decided I had to have an Ithaca 37. After a couple of years of looking I spotted one for sale on a local shooters forum. It was about 20 years old, but had hardly been shot. It's a Deer Slayer Police Special. It's not particularly authentic to the LAPD style be Parkerized, having a six shot tube, and plastic furniture. Still, it's an Ithaca 37. Some day I hope to at least find wood furniture for it.

I don't have any current plans to buy more shotguns, but that doesn't mean if an interesting one shows up at a good price it won't find a home in my safe.
