Ok, Yankee Candle has come out with man scents. There is "Riding Mower", "2X4" and "First Down". Mowing the lawn is always a big job for me, once a week in the summer. It takes over 2 hours to trim, edge and mow. It leaves me exhausted, therefore I don't need to be reminded on the other days of the week. I'm replacing some wood trim and I probably make it twice as hard as it is for someone who knows what they are doing. I've never been a great woodworker (I don't know how I passed wood shop at Scribner Junior High (go Panthers). It's tough enough to not be accomplished at this manly endeavor. Please don't rub salt into the wound by burning a candle that smells like sawdust. The Yankee Candle called "First Down" smells like dirt. Seriously? Enough said.

I'm convinced that regular guys weren't consulted in the development of these new fragrances. Maybe metrosexuals that never had to do any chores. Here would be my choices for smells that men like (besides good smelling women): "Hoppe's Number 9" (a gun cleaning solvent), "Gasoline" (we'll never admit it but when filling up the tank on the lawn mower we like to take a whiff), "New Car Smell" (what man doesn't like that once the sticker shock has worn off), "Leather" (any leather product is like a man magnet) and finally...drum roll..."Fried Bacon" (no explanation necessary).

I'd add cigar smoke, burnt gunpowder, and single malt to the list, but that's just me.

Ahhhh - Napalm In The Morning (aka Victory) should be a big seller.

The smell of a freshly fired shotgun shell, Hoppes #9, hickory burning, a fine cigar, good coffee, rain.

Fireworks, BBQ grill, Wood smoke, burning tires.(burn outs)

"New car smell" is actually plastics outgassing. It can be toxic.

I don't care what the smell is, whenever I walk into a place with scented candles, my eyes glaze over. if I don't do a quick about-face, i'll be looking for a place to take a nap.

Could be worse. They could have made it smell like sweaty 300 pound men in stretchy pants...

As much as I love the smell of solvents and gun oil, or a dremel grinding metal, those are precisely the smells I have to cover up because I'm not supposed to be doing that stuff in the house. I'd have to walk down the street to smoke a cigar.

I bought one for my husband as he wanted to put a candle in our toilet though I have a collection of beeswax candles. I would still go with my favorite beeswax coz I find it healthier for my kids. It produces natural scents of honey which can purify the air. Whatever our choices, having even a single candle in our house makes a good atmosphere.

I have a friend that makes candles. She gave me several that did not sell.

One is "campfire". Smells like wood smoke. Very nice. One - I forget the name - smells like the woods after a rain - just kinda fresh and damp.

And one, called Woodland Trail, smells like marijuana burning.

I can't imagine why none of her hippie customers bought that one.

Maybe good old hi-octane leaded gasoline , or even better , CAM2 racing gas!

Not that low-octane eco-friendly swill they sell today that pings when ya wash parts in it.

How about BEER!

Just goes to show with the right packaging and advertising you can sell almost anything to the American public. Next will be the dark stuff that comes out of a pigs butt packed into an old soup can with a wick in it, sold as "natural gas flame" candles. Ingredients from range fed pigs only. A little paint on the old soup can and a pretty ribbon around it and the yuppies will love it. When you care enough to give the very best.

I don't think I'm a "metro sexual", but I like stuff that smells good. One of my favorites is one by Scentsy called Chili Masala. They have another called Cucumber Lime that's cool. I used to get Mango & Apple Pie Cinnamon from Yankee;the only bad thing was that the Apple Pie Cinnamon made me crave apple pie, & I don't need that!
