I just bought 2000 rounds of 5.56 AP from Freedom arms. They aren't worth a pint of warm spit without lots of ammo.

You will love it. Colts are the best in the AR-15 platform.
I have a couple and have owned about a dozen over the years.
Many imitators out there but The AR-15's are the originals.
Good shooting. Have fun !!
Chuck

Not trying to be a downer here....but seriously...what are these guns good for? Just going to the range and shooting 2000 rounds at paper?

Actually Chuck, I think The Armalite Company, (" Armalite Rifle") and Mr. Stoner did it first! I could be mistaken...

Once they are sighted in properly, they're very good at bouncing cans around at the plinking range.
If the proper ammo is used, the rear sight can be adjusted out to 600 yards for whatever is needed.
They also make a good home defense weapon in a pinch.
They are just plain fun to shoot.

Sounds like fun....the .223 ammo is cheap also. Might make a good coyote getter.

You said it! They make decent varmint rifles and aren't near as testy as some if the bolt guns out there. Dale

They are actually pretty versatile. I've used mine on two trips to Wyoming for Prairie dogs. With some optics, it is plenty accurate to hold its own with my cousin and his 204 Ruger bolt. Plus I don't have to reload as often and have faster follow up shots!
When not using it for that it is always ready for a back up home defense situation...handgun would be primary in most situations I suspect but if I had time to prepare or was defending a set position a rifle (or shotgun) might have some advantages.
Oh yeah, and they ARE fun at the range for paper too.

Did they sell you actual M955 black tip AP or just standard GI green tip? GI green tip ammo is not AP.
