Its vacation time and again we are heading to the mountains. Gonna be in the Ellijay River and Blue Ridge area of Ga.

Does anyone know of any good gun shops or pawn shops in the area? I will need some away from three teenage girls and my wife and a good shop with the purchase of some gun goodies will make my day.

Also, what are the laws on a Florida resident purchasing firearms in Ga? I have a CWP if that matters.

Thanks, Gary

We have stayed in Ellijay (outside the City) several times. It's a really nice town. Can't say about gun shops due to SWMBO, but can sure tell you about antique shops and crafts.

It's not as "quaint" as it used to be. They built a Wally Mart:(

Good Apples.

Gun laws I imagine are the same as anywhere. You can get a long gun but no handguns. They would have to be FFL to FFL.

Enjoy!

There is a gun shop a few miles south of town on hwy 515. I've only been inside a couple of times and it seems okay. I don't know of any others in the area other than the Bargain Barn in Jasper, about 15 miles south. No gun smith or other services there, they only sell guns and supplies but have a large selection. Enjoy your stay.

Just north of town on the east side of 515 there is a gun shop, I think it is called Gun Pro Shop or something similar.

I've seen the one on 515 but have not stopped in. There's also one in Blue Ridge that I've been in when a buddy of mine forgot to bring shells on a grouse hunt. They had a few older guns. I haven't been in the Bargain Barn for years.

There's also a big flea market just over the border in NC that I've heard usually has a lot of guns.

I don't think there are that many places up that way that would have much of a selection of the kind of guns most around here like.

Andy G. lives up that way and may be able to give some better advice.

If you have the time and inclination, the Toccoa river below the dam is one of the best places around to catch a big trout. It's recovered well after the lake drawdown a few years back. Unicoi outfitters can give good advice or a guided trip. You have to do a float for the best fishing.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

Current Elljay FFL locations. I don't know about "good". From ATF online.

If you have a Smart Phone, buy this $.99 App. Not only does it tell if your CCW is recognized in the state you are visiting, it tells of any local restrictions and gives Mapquest turn-by-turn navigation to any gun store or firing range within any number of miles from where you are standing!

Sitting in the cabin in Ellijay right now, earlier I looked in some pawn shops and found nothing of interest. Just some old beater shotguns and a Browning BAR beater with a Simmons scope for $899.00.

Went to the Gun Pro Shop south of Ellijay for a look. I really wanted to buy SOMETHING, but I guess I was invisible to the staff. Three employees in the shop and I was one of two customers and they did not acknowledge my presence even one time. I looked around a little and saw they had some .45 LC behind the counter and if they would have just said "can I help you?" they would have had a $70.00 sale. I left with my money and the decision of "never again". It is sad that so many gun shops have that crappy attitude.

You were not kidding about the PO-PO and the speed traps. Ellijay PD had people pulled over right and left. My wife managed to spend less than a hundred walking around the old artsy section of town; I was thrilled!

The girls are going horseback riding in the morning up in Blue Ridge, GA. Maybe I can find a nice gun shop of gun/pawn up that way while they are on the trail.

Anyway, thanks for the replies, it is much appreciated.

The Ace Hardware in Blue Ridge has a pretty large selection. Also Alexander's in Blairsville.

I have had the same experience at the "gun pro shop". Last time I was there, about three months ago, was my last. Gunsmith there likes to brag a lot too, but can't seem to fix much. I live in the area and just can't find a good, friendly shop. Oh well, maybe it's me.
