While channel surfing, I stopped on a show called Paranormal Witness on the Sci-Fi channel. It shows narratives of encounters with the supposed paranormal with interviews of the actual individuals involved.

I like creepy stories. I had nothing to do. Broke out the hard lemonade and settled in for an entertaining evening.

In most of these stories, it's not just the homeowner that has a paranormal experience it's also anyone else they invite to the house. While not scientific, a shared experience amongst a group of non related individuals is something I won't immediately discount.

Why the heck do these people stay in that place?

Im not a superstitious individual. Even though I was raised as a Roman Catholic, I am not a religious individual. If I were in that situation, one weird occurrence I'll brush off. Two or three, I'll brush that off. Constant daily occurrences that increase in intensity and duration that can not be readily debunked?

I'm grabbing my go bag and getting out of there. I'll instantly reverse my non-religious & non superstitious position. I'm headed out to whichever house of worship is closest to talk to the congregation leader.

Roman Catholic priest, Baptist minister, Lutheran minister, Jewish rabbi, American Indian shaman... it doesn't matter.

A friend of mine bought a 5500 sq ft house that had been built in 1890.It took 5 of us 7 months to restore it to it's former glory. During that period the plumber grew increasingly wary and finally refused to work there alone. When the job was over,he admitted to being spooked by an old man in overalls looking over his shoulder while he worked. That description matched the fellow who owned it in the 70s and had recently died.In the years since then,I've watched the place for the owner when she travels.I've always felt that house had a calm, pleasant vibe. The plumber refuses to set foot in the place.I've never believed in ghosts, but this one makes me wonder.

Edit: It gets more interesting. At 3 this morning,a supply line to the master bathroom burst. The owner (pregnant with twins) jumped out of bed ,went flying and spent the last 10 hours in the hospital.Maybe that old coot is watching out for her.

As someone who doesn't believe in ghosts or the Paranormal I would have no problem living in or staying at a haunted house. I'll believe in ghosts when I see Casper

What a bunch of cynics. A lot of these people have spent their life savings restoring these places. That would make you much more hesitant to leave, compared to an apartment or run down house. Also, sometimes people are haunted. Wouldn't matter where they lived. I believe in ghosts. Check some of Paladin's Arizona threads for more evidence.

When we first moved into our house we would occasionally see a dark haired female apparition dressed in a dark green dress. We had some friends over and after staying the night they asked us if we knew our house was haunted. Then they described the same female figure to us. The apparition would just appear every now and then and didn't cause any problems. We'd find drawers pulled open, cabinets opened and stuff like that but that's about all. Over the years we'd see her less and less and haven't seen her for a while now. It was no big deal, nothing to freak out about. In fact I kinda miss seeing her.

I dont think I ever had a visual ghost experiance. Yet I dont doubt some people have had them. I have never heard of a ghost hurting someone. I have heard and read too many storys of others to think they all are lieing although I am sure some do for attention. It`s always these practical jokers and liars that cast doubt on all other storys people have to the point many wont tell their experiances true to them for being thought a nut.

There IS verses in the bible acknowledgeing that ghosts existed. But on the other hand there also is verses that warn against messing with them. Dont ask me to quote the exact scriptures as I dont feel like days of reading to prove it. I just am recalling old sermons that did point out the sources and I was satisfied at the time.
How about this one: Durring world war two my mother had a experiance and at the time she wasnt religious yet. She heard a black spirtual song at night. She went around to see if a radio was on but there wasnt. Somehow she knew it had something to do with her brother, eldon. She got on her knees and prayed for him. Finaly he came home and they compared notes and found it was the exact time he was badley wounded in a glider landing on D day. Just he and one other guy in his glider of 14 guys lived through the event!
Around 1915 my grandmother said she heard what sounded like a whip hitting her bedroom door. I belive she also said there were lash marks on the door but cant swear to it after all these years. Anyway a month or so later she got word that her mother died that night in europe.
Once I was traveling through a town in mississipi. I recalled I had a friend I had worked with about 3 or 4 years prior in california in that town so looked him up in the phone book. We agreed to meet at a resturant. While waiting I told my partner with me that I had a strange feeling about this. Dave got there and looked weak and in bad shape. He said, "You know, this is the first time in about a year I left the house." I was in a bad accident and just came out of a coma a few days ago!
I have hear just too many odd storys like that not to belive in something unexplainable going on out there.
Another one. Long story short, I missed a planned flight and it crashed on mt whitney california back in 1969.
The Gambler's Special
I carried that news paper clipping for a long time and look at it when I thought things were going rough.

I hope you keep your beliefs and that you never see "Casper"...I had similar such thoughts. Note use of the word "HAD". I wrote about this before on this forum and will not do so again. Suffice to say, my beliefs along that line changed dramatically.

As far as my deliberately staying in a haunted house or place. After reading this, I would not mind spending the night at Presido La Bahia in Goliad or in the long barracks at The Alamo. I'd probably bring a bottle of whiskey and drink with heroes.

What's really funny is how quickly some are willing to believe that Ghosts are imaginary... UFO's are imaginary... Big Foot is imaginary... and leprechauns are imaginary... yet many (albeit not all) of these same people believe that our government is here to help, protect, and serve us! ;)

As an engineer, I understand the value of scientific method! That said, I can listen to theoretical physicists talk about black holes without ever actually seeing one outside of a weak signal captured by a radio telescope. And we won't even talk about the folks who believe that out of untold trillions of planets (that astronomers and physicists believe to exist), this little rock of ours is the only one with "semi" intelligent life on it... :p

Sadly people believe what they want to believe!

In the case of the "reality" shows, it's no doubt often done for ratings. But otherwise, motives vary.

My sister & brother-in-law had a house in Wapakoneta, Ohio that was haunted. They would leave during the day and items were moved and/or rearranged when they came home. Their daughter used to stay there once in a while, but one night she had a "visit", and the following morning she left and told them she would never never stay there again. My sister said "it" was friendly and did not like the telephone at all, because many times they would find the phone cord disconnected.

I just remembered another encounter I had. I used to work as a repair tech at a factory. At the safety meetings they would recount the story of a machine operator who was crushed to death in a 500 ton press.
One day I was performing a PM on one of the machines. I had my Dewalt Jobsight radio on the local classic rock station. The radio changed itself to a country station. I changed it back and as I looked at the dial I saw it change back to the same country music station. I guess the factory's haunted by the guy that got crushed to death and he likes country music.
