I signed up for the New Balance sales emails and that has saved me a lot.
I just ordered a pair after wearing Reebok ClubC's for years. I couldn't seem to get a pair that supported my foot properly.

At about forty or so I started notice my feet were getting wider and my arches have started falling. I'll be 53 soon.

I hope the NB's do the trick the ones at the store were D width (I need wider) but the rest of the fit was perfect. I'll know next week.

Oh, and Made in the U.S.A.

Get Rollerblades...

j/k

I would suggest good Sneakers (Asics, Nike, etc) or Magnum shoes.

My grandfather (RIP) wore adidas with velcro and was pretty happy with them.

No wait it was a problem getting in too.

LouisanaJoe "I did get treated for the heal spur(Plantar faceitis) and the doctor stuck a 3 inch needle in my foot to treat it."

Hey...I got the same needle, the Doc (a friend) kinda hung his head and said 'this is really going to hurt'.....it did and I cried like a little kid. About 2 weeks later I was good to go! When I think about the needle I still hurt!

DG, by the way, any hot rod I have ever built I always put one of those quick pin release set ups for the steering wheel.

This not only to get my bigger self in and out, but for safety as well, GOD forbid. I would have NEVER got in and out when I was that big without pulling the steering wheel, now that would be a fib to say I could!! I couldn't afford to feed myself now if I was that big again anyway. Not even close. 4-6 grilled chicken breasts every day, plus fish and steak, and buckets of rice and veggies, and then there was still the afternoon

Just for general information.
When you buy New Balance shoes get the highest model number you can. The higher the number the better the shoe and the higher number usually means they were made in the USA. For example I have had a pair for 4 years and they are model number 1223. Good long lasting comfy shoes.

Do by all means get a pair of heavy duty work boots like several guys have recommended. Then take out the insoles and put in a GREEN pair of Superfeet insoles. I do not leave home without them!

Same experience here. I went through a half dozen or so NB in four years. Switched to Merrell. So far, so good but I've only been in these for a few months.

Like others have said, if you can wear a short top work book, I would try that. Ankle support will help than a short top tennis style shoe.
