State of Tennessee Ammo Tax?
Catchy title got you boys in the Volunteer States attention I bet. Hold on to your Orange and watch this. Found a full box of old Remington "Dog Bone" .22 ammo. Upon further inspection it has on the back two State of Tennessee Ammunition Tax Stamps. One is 9/10 of 1 cent, and the other is 3/10 of 1 cent. Which, obivously, equates to 1.2 cents. Considering this is a very old box would that not be trememdous tax burden on a barefoot boy, a dog, and an errant occasional squirrel? I have never seen that before. Can someone from the great state enlighten us? Perhaps they were trying to make up lost revenue from "shine"?
Regards
Bill

I think they still do that. I bought some fairly recent 270 Win ammo from a fella up there a couple years ago that had stamps on it.

We still have it. The numbers are just bigger now. I want to think part of it goes to fund the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, along with hunting licenses and boat tags.

Bought Pat a box of little bullets the other week for her little revolver. The box of Winchester PDX1 .38+P was $25 and had a green stamp for 10 cents.

I've got a box of Super-X .22's in my collection with a Tennessee stamp.
How do you get change from 9/10th's of a cent?

Good question Chad. My old box probably cost a quarter or less I would guess. 1 morethan8 said he just bought a 25 dollar box with a 10 cent tax stamp. Inflation has not crept in on ammo in Tenn.

I remember as a young boy during WWII seeing 1 mill coins made from compressed cardboard. They had a value of 1/10th of a cent.

the rabbit sheriffs check ammo at the gun shows around here and if you don't have the TN tax stamp on it, they take it with them. they cut me some slack and let me put some back under the table when i first moved back here. only had a couple of boxes but it was win supreme: not cheap. lee

I agree. Alot of good things are done with the money. .10 a box is nothing in the grand scheme of things these days.

The dealer buys the stamps from the state before hand. It's like gasoline, the tax is part of the price...
humm? Wonder why gas is always priced per gallon with a "point 9" per gallon?
