Tired of the "Zombie Apocalypse" marketing?
Hi,
Well, just in time for Halloween, one of the regional PBS garden program hosts has published an antidote to all the "Zombie Apocalypse" marketing that we've been seeing recently...
Take a look:
Tips for Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse With P. Allen Smith - YouTube

I started a thread like this last weekend....
...to say I am BEYOND sick and tired of it is an understatement. It's like going into a camping goods isle and find every knife on the rack has Bear Grylls pic and name on it...
ARRRRRGGGGHHHH!

I'm not tired of the Zombie stuff. I enjoy zombie movies, video games. If i don't want to see the Zombie stuff, I turn off the tv, or walk to a different area of the store.
Is it over the top, absolutely, but there are other things that irritate me far more than Zombie gear, ammo, targets, etc.
Capitalism at its best.

I opted out on Brownells zombie email. This is quite possibly the most absurd idea I have ever seen.

Those who do not believe in the mindless walking dead must have never been in a Walmart after 10 PM around the first of the month . . . .

I knew I was officially all "Zombied" out when I saw the Zombie Addition LCP. Com'on, everyone knows you need at least a 9mm to take down the undead. Unless of course you use those Zombie-rated green tracers in .380.

I didn't believe in zombies until I saw pictures of the 'Rolling Stones' this week.
Now I'm not so sure.

Last weekend, I went out for a cocktail with my wife, who had heard about a place with good bloody marys. When we got to town, we found the neighborhood overrun with college kids in costume for a "Zombie Walk". We pressed on, regardless, and found ourselves chatting with a series of 20-somethings in zombie drag.
I felt duty-bound to advise them that walking around in zombie costume was a dangerous thing to do. There were guys out hunting real zombies armed with 12 ga. Saigas with 30-round mags. Because the safety of the public is paramount, one of these legit zombie hunters would probably feel it necessary to gun down anyone in costume if they couldn't tell the difference from a real zombie. The more realistic the costume, the greater the hazard. Not trying to tell these kids how to party or anything, but a word to the wise...

I'm not sure that it has quite reached apocalyptic levels yet, but there are countless zombies walking, driving, texting - thousands at a time - on any given day.
Just look around, you'll see 'em.

Based on the chatter in recent threads here, I'm pretty sure that we'll likely see all this silly "zombie" nonsense fading away, given the manifestly more ominous and demonstrably more imminent threat posed by mysterious large felines, most of them sinisterly black in color, which are ostensibly prowling our eastern wildlands and even suburban neighborhoods, while remaining blithely unacknowledged or even denied, by the thin green line of wildlife management authorities. Staggering, lurching, brain-dead zombies, as already demonstrated by WalMart and Costco shoppers, are merely an annoyance, but when populations of these cryptic cats reach critical mass, Katy bar the door. I advise stocking up on any available dramatically depicted large cat paper targets, advertised "kitty-killer" ammo, catnip (a distracting deterrent), and chain-mail longjohns, as a defensive precaution.

There are all kinds of nuts in the world. Honey Boo Boo has lots of past lovers, if you catch my drift. A guy might buy an old gorilla costume to scare his buddies, and run into a whacko.
Now, I doubt this might happen on a college campus a few days before Halloween, but I've seen numerous *patients* wandering around Madison talking to themselves. Technically, you could run into one these guys who is "zombaphobic."

The bigfoot gag, could be, and was, fatal:
Man hit by car twice in apparent "Bigfoot" hoax - CBS News
So could the zombie gag. You won't catch me creeping around at night in Arizona in a zombie costume!!!

Your key word there was "walk." I think they drive around, as well.
But consider the bigger picture. In Wisconsin, the phrase they use is "adjudicated" for mental issues. And while I have some medical issues myself, there are probably many zombaphobic individuals legally strolling around armed.
They have gone to doctors on their own, not forced to under law.
Knowing that, I wouldn't even sit under a green flood light when I see some guy drooling and talking to himself. But then, I live in a college town, and I think you have to have some quirk just to get an apartment...

The zombie craze was fun for a while, but it got old very quickly. But when it went to guns, ammo, sights, knives, targets, even training courses then it got silly, and worse, it started to take away some of the seriousness of self defense and firearms safety by making it look childish and making some guns look like toys.

We just got back from visiting my stepdaughter. She wont let my grandson even have a toy gun! I started to tell my grandson a gory war story about ed gein a killer-cannable case in wisconsin many years ago. Daughter shusshed me up. Didnt want justin to hear such awfull storys. YET they were playing the marathon weekend of the "Walking dead" series as I was starting to interupt with my war story! I am missing something here!

I agree with the over marketing. I love The Walking Dead. I find the knives and bags kinda goofy. I do like the Hornady Zombie Max ammo. I hope they keep making that even if in another name. I know its the same as Critical Defense but I like the brass shell for a buck less.

A friend years ago had a gorilla costume on for a party and was in the car with his brother when they stopped at a store. He waited outside and couldn't help himself but put on the head and jumped up and down on the car hood as an old lady came out of the store. She dropped her bag of groceries and ran for it in fright. He tried to stop her and make it right but she wouldn't stop to hear of it.
I've had enough of the zombie craze myself but chooce to just ignore it all mostly.

Go google "Orson Welles War of the Worlds." It was a radio broadcast, and millions thought it was a real news story.
Zombies? Sooner or later some "security officer" is going to plug a college student pledging for a fraternity.

We've had Zombie movies for decades...... now the Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead TV shows..............
Great line from my son as we watched the 2nd or 3rd episode of Fear the Walking Dead.
"How can these people not know what's happening and how to kill them...... didn't any of them ever watch the movie "Night of the Living Dead?"

I didn't believe in Zombies until my neighbor and I ( after a few JDs and Coke) chased one out of our garden last spring. Sneaky devil; haven't seem it since but it still eats our tomatoes late at night But the whole shooting/marketing thing is pretty stupid

Why yes, yes I am. But on the other hand what would the "Gun Shop Commandos" and "Mall Ninjas" buy?

I like the show Walking Dead.
Not a fan of anything else to do with zombies, especially in real world applications (knives, shotguns, machetes, bug out gear, video reviews, etc...)
It's fiction not fact.

I don't rightly know if the dead walk. But today is election day in Memphis and I know for a fact that a bunch of 'em will vote.
