Default Winter project

About 10-11 years ago, I bought these knive parts with the intention of building a knife. Well, I went to Kosovo, then Afghanistan, then got married, started another job, etc.

I ran across the parts a few weeks ago. I plan on putting it together this winter.

BTW, I remember reading that the blade couldbe dipped in a mild acid solution to bring out the pattern better. Anybody out there know what type of acid and what strength?

That looks like a really nice pattern to begin with.
Don't forget to post pictures when you get done.

It's circuit board etcher from Radio Shack. I don't remember if it had another name on it it's been a while since I did it. Use it full strength and neutralize it when it's done.

A maker of Damascus recommends this:
Etch in a 50/50 diluted solution of ferric chloride
(available at Radio Shack) and distilled water
Submerse blade in solution for 10 minutes
Remove blade and rinse under running water
Repeat every 5 minutes until desired results are obtained
For a brighter blade, buff and re-etch 1 time
Neutralize with tri sodium phosphate

I didn't realize it had been NINE YEARS since I last posted on my knife project. I actually finished it early this year, but didn't get around to taking pictures of it until today. I had planned on making a sheath for it, but I picked up today at a swap meet. It is a little too long, so I need to cut it down and re-stitch it.

Anyway, here is the completed knife.
