Dang dead deer.
I just checked it out and I have a dead deer rotting in the palmettos in another acre I own next door. Now I have about 20-30 Turkey Vultures filling the pine trees waiting their turn to feed. I scare them away, they just come back. Guess I'm stuck with them for a while.

Vultures gotta eat too. At least this way they won't be licking their lips (vulture lips? ) and giving you the stink eye as a possible main course . . .

I never saw one until about 5 years ago. You know, they look like a Turkey.

Leave them alone and the job will be done that much faster. Once they're finished, they will move on.

I killed a possum and was gonna bury him the next morning. I was to late, The vultures were on it before I got up about an hour or so after daybreak. There were only 3 or 4 but it was pretty much gone in about 5 hours.
BTW They were Black Vultures. We get both around here.

Pour lime on the deer to cut down on the smell. You should move pretty fast when you are outside. You don't want the buzzards to get any ideas. Larry

Well Dick, I can't comment without getting political. So I'll suffice to say, the better they eat the less it stinks. We should be so lucky. See you at one of the upcoming shows. Joe

On one of the boating forums I follow there is a thread going on about eating seagulls I don't know which would taste worse. A seagull is sure prettier up close, although a buzzard or more soaring high riding the thermals is a beautiful sight.
My family moved to Louisiana in 1962 if I remember right buzzards were not common then, now they are all over the place, is it the same elsewhere?

Good thing you don't live in my area, EHD has wiped out about 80% of the deer in the hardest hit areas. Finding a dead deer is easy, a live one not so easy. The section north of the farm I heard they found about 240 dead deer along the creek and the some are saying that the kill may go to 50,000 plus state wide. 6 years of QDM down the drain! Not a lot of people looking forward too Nov 15 gun opener, For some they may not live long enough to see decent deer hunting again, a real shame.

why would anyone try to scare away eating vultures?
then You'll have to clean up the mess they would.

Yeah, I've been seeing more out here in the desert too. Now I'm wondering if there really are more or if they're just showing up more often. I am getting older and I'm starting to think they might be following me waiting for me to fall over.
Eating seagulls? Now that's a nasty thought. They're just a seagoing version of a vulture.
