Default windows 8

purchased a laptop that uses window 8. tried this morning to locate SWF, it took 7 searches on the int. exp. when i finally found it, it come up, i coudn`t just make it a favorite, and then send it to the home page. it stays in the top right hand corner, and i have to pull SWF up this way. i`m sure someone will have a suggestion on where/ how the favorites will come up on the home page!!! i`ve downloaded security discs for years, not on windows 8. when a tech helped me put on the security disc, lifetime w/ the purchase, told me that windows 8 is not perfected yet, and there is still a lot of windows 7 in W 8. so go figure, they rushed 8, like other electronics, phones, weapons, and they didn`t have all the facets running smoothly. so this thread is being posted from the old desk cpu. and the laptop didn`t come w/ an instruction book. have to read it off the internet. not ranting, just amazed on how little i know about electronics. asked my granddaughter several years ago, how do you text messages? she stopped texting , with a smile and looked up at me and said with your fingers pap.

I gave up on Windows. While back. Your Win8 issues are nothing new with Microsoft as they always release an OS that is not flawed from the start. What I mean is they go for quantity over quality to get the OS out there rather than make sure it is the best it can be before they release it.

Windows 8 shouldn't be on anything that isn't touch screen, which is what it was designed for. So you throw it on a non -touch device and it becomes a bit of a mess. Good luck with your new purchase

I've found that it is usually better to wait about a year after a new Operating System comes out and they send out a couple of Service Pack fixes before I switch to the new OS. Sometimes the new computers have a way to opt out of Windows 8 and go back to Windows 7 with a system disk.

Bearfoot,

From the "Start" screen, open your "Desktop" tile. Move your mouse to the top right corner where you'll see the little house symbol for home, the "Star" for favorites or bookmarks and the "Gear" for settings.

Hit the Star and you can save favorites. I'm still learning this d**n thing, the biggest problem I have is switching back and forth like I used I my old O/S.

They also have a feature where you can "pin" things to your Start page, I haven't figured that one out yet.

Tony
