buying or selling?
in this crazy enviroment, are you guys wondering if you should be buying guns or selling them?
would it be wise to buy revolvers and lever guns? Should we be buying anything semi-auto? do you ever think you will be stuck with your collection w/out the legal ability to sell them?
just wondering outloud.

Selling, but only because I have more than I need, and the prices people are paying are hard to pass on. Of course, if work wasn't slow right now I might just be sitting on what I've got with some satisfaction, but that's not the case.

sqhead ... All buying bubbles burst at some point, and you don't want to be the chump who bought high and can't sell higher. Personally, I wouldn't enter the current fray the way prices have been. After everyone in the country owns an AR or two, no one will want them anymore ... especially the newbies and novices who jumped in because "they had to have one". Lever guns are showing some price increases, but not near madness levels. My LGS does a very brisk two-state business on the PA-NY border, and has experienced the following buyers' panic over the past few weeks (in order): Semi-auto pistols & defense/tactical shotguns ... ammo ... ARs ... AKs ... ammo ... defense/tactical shotguns II ... ammo. At present, everything is either gone or backordered, as the frenzy in this area has now cycled around to buying anything that shoots, especially on the used rack. Anyone who "needs" something is late to the party, and is better off sitting on the sidelines and waiting for a pull back. Conversely, I'd say this is the time to sell ... anything and everything. Cash out for any firearm that is under-utilized or superfluous to one's collection, then go back in at a more favorable time. If someone is willing to lay down stupid money for my NIB AR, so be it.

i'm not an ar fan,and not knocking those that like them, but like ammo prices going up,and staying higher, i think,so too , all guns will stay on the high side, even revolvers.

That's the thing about the free market system. Demand causes the price to rise. Once the crisis is over, who's going to be buying those $2000.00 and up AR's? They'll be lucky to lose less than 50% on those investments. The prices before the tragedy will be the prices again.

Those who planned ahead are selling. Those who didn't are buying. I 'm doing both because I am an idiot.

I see some bargains from guys selling to buy AR/AR format stuff, or the bottom feeder euro nines. Boy just gave up his "old double barrel" for a SIG. Nice Parker Trojan but yes, lever gun prices are definately on the rise down this way, far beyond last years prices, like near double. I have mine, and I buy, and never sell. Just my thing.

I know a few people who have been selling, and making a nice dollar. Then they ask, are you gonna? You should, "this is a window of opportunity." Yeah I know, but I like what I have, and don't feel I have to let go of anything. I never was good at selling much. I'm very glad I'm not needing to buy right now. I'm sure you'll have regrets on both sides.

I am doing both and advising the same to others. Regarding AR's and other semi autos with high cap mags, this is the time to sell or hold. Sell if you have more than you need, but it is not a good time to buy. High capacity magazines however are still legal to buy. I would try and get some on back order just in case they become unavailable. (full disclosure, I ordered 10 30 round pmags).
I am buying investment grade guns. If you are in a position where you can move some assets from cash to other investments now would be a good time. The US Treasury is printing dollars without any gold to back them up. In the past when countries have done this it has resulted in some inflation. Hopefully I am wrong or we have mild inflation. I am buying investment grade guns. Guns in the top 5-10% of what is out there. I am also moving out of securities and into real estate.
If you are young and married your wife may be reluctant to invest her future in firearms. I am 67 and single. When I was younger I wish I had bought more real estate, but over my career I moved several times. Where I now live is where I will be buried.
I am not at all sure we will return to the old prices of things after the madness we are now going through is over.

I'm doing nothing. I really have nothng in the way of what's popular to sell other than my mini and if I were to sell it, I'd just spend the money and not have a mini. I've owned it llong enough that I could never replace it for the cost I have in it SO I'm just gonna hang on. I feel pretty much the same way about the rest of them-if I sell all I am going to do is spend the money and then not have a gun or the money.
As far as buying-I'll always buy if the gun is what I want and the price is right. Right now the price isn't right on most and even before the price wasn't right for most. I'm at the point where I really have no burning desire to get anything special but if something comes along that piques my interest and the price is there, I'm gonna snatch it up.
As far as not buying a gun because in the future it may be outlawed-that really doesn't enter into my thought process. What does enter the process is ammunition. I am way less likely to buy a gun that shoots a caliber that I don't already have. Which for rifles if it ain't a .30-06 or a .223 I'm probably not gonna buy it.

I havent read all the thread but I wouldnt be buying. I am too cheap to be paying these prices. I have plenty, should be selling but too greedy to let them go. Now if I was a newbie with no guns, I would have to be buying.

A shop I know had 1,000 rd cases of Federal .223 ammo...the Eagle brand 55gr fmj GI stuff, in 20 rd cardboard boxes. Post election it was $329 per case OTD.
Last week the owner listed several cases on GunBroker at $800 per case...as a joke. They ALL sold.
Crazy times.

I picked this up this past summer on a road trip.
Forget the town but it was an Academy outlet.
Did not know Sig even made an AR platform.
Could nearly double my dough based on the auction sites.
But......when will they hit stores/dealers again.
They gonna ban em ?
Not really an AR guy so I may take advantage of the current market.
Today is the second time it's been outta the box.
Give me a good M1 carbine and I'm set.

I have found that this buying AR type firearms frenzy has made a lot of people dig out those old worthless revolvers. My LGS has got several of those old worthless junks in from people trying to buy plastic good guns. So far since this frenzy of gun buying I have bought 4 pieces of junk. All 4 were rubbish that was traded in for good new guns. Amongest these 4 are a model 19-2 2 1/2", a model 15 in box with tools a H an R M1 Garand and a browning challenger. I'll continue to be the idiot getting stuck with everyone else's unwanted trash.

Selling some of my shotguns.
Selling some of my shotguns.
Selling some with extended magazine capacity.
Selling some with pistol grips.
I had more than I really needed.
Prices got ridiculous.
SELL while the price is UP!
Did get a GOOD DEAL on a Model 64 and bought it.

I only sell to friends & co-workers (I work at the prisons), or horse trade guns w/ a gun shop that appreciates collector grade firearms...I never sell just to sell...period...
As for buying, I wish I had some cash for a revolver (aint sayin' what kind) I'd like at my LGS but I'm a little tight on spending cash right now...
As for potential ban items, I was around 30 when Clinton did his thing & I learned my lesson...
