Default New Hampshire

I got a pulse of a possible job opportunity in New Hampshire and I would like some input if there are any New Hampshire members out there.

I love the California weather and I dearly love the.......hmmm...ahhh.....ummmm. Well the weather sure is nice. I have been contemplating a move but given my age and the point in my career it would have to be a place where I might be able to finish my career (10 more years or so) and not so expensive I could retire there. However, the highest priority requirement before all else is that it must be one of the few remaining "free states". The gun laws must be sane and not subject to the whims of the Democratic Peoples Republic of California lawmakers.

So what is the read on New Hampshire. I read their gun laws (very nice) and have read there is no sales tax or income tax. Did I read this all correctly?

Yes, you did. Although Property taxes are pretty high.

Where exactly in New Hampshire?

You most certainly did read it all correctly. No sales or income taxes, but most towns get you on property taxes, auto registrations, etc. That being said, I love it here. The weather will certainly be a departure from San Jose(making an assumption based on user name), as I am staring out at 16" of snow pack right now with temps in the low 30's, but the summer and fall are FANTSTIC!! The only season I have issue with is spring, when the blackflies and mosquitoes are so thick as to look like a cloud. As far as firearm laws, very easy. CC is shall issue, usually within 2 weeks of application for a resident, only in the metro areas (Manchester, Portsmouth) do people even look twice at an open carry. We just elected a slightly more liberal Democrat governor to replace the very centrist Democrat we had, and with Dems holding both chambers at the state level, there could be some bumpy road ahead on the legislative front, but we're a pretty libertarian state at heart, so I don't think the constituency will stand for much "nanny state nonsense". All in all this is a great part of the country, with the beach down south, and mountains up north, there's something for everyone. What part of the state might you be interested in?

Possible Nashua area. Would I trade DiFi, Pelosi and Boxer for 16" of snow? Would I trade 9.5% sales tax and 9% income tax for mosquitos and bugs in the spring? Would I trade an a radial liberal/democratic supermajority intent on limiting gun ownership for great weather 6 months out of the year?

Giving up all of this might be hard.

Please note Nashua sits just north of..........well, anyway, just a short drive to the west is Vermont. The right to guns is written into our constitution with a provision that no town or city has the right to restrict that amendment. No permits needed, and that goes for visitors as well. And our governor, a Dem, is pro-gun. Our weather is the same as NH, complete with Deer Flies and mosquitos. And we do have a 6% sales tax.

Vermont is a tremendous state for sure. Unfortunately, Nashua is, in fact, just minutes from the socialist republic of Massachussets, but you could work in Nashua, and live in a town east, west or north. One of the things that I find great about all NORTHERN New England population centers is that from the center on any city, just drive 20 minutes in any direction and your liable to find a large dairy farm, secluded wooded roads, or a seemingly deserted stretch of beach. In other words, sprawl isn't unbearable here.....yet

I'm going to follow up on the inquiry and check it out. Will take a number of months to consumate but I will definitely be checking it out. Not a stranger to cold/snow (Oregon Coast, Olympic Pennisula) but it has been a while.

Given the welcome I have received since I joined this board I would solicit a lot from the NH resident members here. Now I'm having thoughts about kicking back in the snow with a big *** fire....have the environazis established no burn zones there?

Feeling like a change is coming....

You might, of course, consider Texas...
