Stencils for ammo can's
Does anyone know where I could find some stencils to mark my ammo cans with. I seen you can get custom made one's but they are expensive. looking for a 45 ACP, 40 S&W, and a 22 LR. If anyone has info or any other ideas to mark them please share!
Thanks, Nick

Most stationary stores carry different kinds of stencils at least here in the wilds of Wyoming.

Somewhere out in the garage is a stencil cutter. They were cleaning out some stuff at work before I retired and I snagged it. The problem seems to be that it cuts 1" letters. Its a huge machine, maybe 18" to 2' in diameter with a big wheel and a pointer. You just spin the wheel to the letter you want punched and pull down on the lever. I'd never given any thought to stenciling calibers on cans. Guess I need to get one of my sons to haul it out of its hiding place an put it up on the workbench. Wish me luck on getting that done.
From experience I know the best stencil material is an old file folder. The cardboard is thick enough so its not flimsy. It also sounds like a good use for day-glow paint. Sounds much better than my self stick labels.
Now I wish I hadn't tossed out the 1/2" cutter.

I use painters tape, comes in various widths and usually blue or green. Easy to apply and write on, using a Sharpie. Also pulls off easily.

Hobby Lobby or Michaels both have general stencil sets.

I use regular masking tape. Good quality duct tape works well also. Sharpie or use permanent magic maker!

I use those small, round, stickers called out on
the packaging as "Color Coding Labels."
I just re-did all of my cans and went with one color. Prior to that I had used
one color for handgun, another for rifle & yet another for shotgun.
I use a felt marker to write in the caliber / gauge.
I've found that they will cleanly come off of the plastic ammo cans,
or, if you are so inclined, you could just stick a different one on
top of another if you switch up what's in your cans.
I've also used 2 x 4" address labels that I
printed up on my computer's printer.
I prefer something easily changed since I change up once
in awhile to utilize my "inside can space" to the fullest.

Plastic stick-on letters from the Big Box hardware store. Or golf car serial numbers that I found in the closet at work -- stocked up on 22, 38, 35, 44, 45; took awhile to find 222, 223, 308.

A few years back I was into putting my name on everything. Got a stencil set from the Wally, stenciled my name on a file folder, cut out the letters and got a can of spray paint and got to labeling. If it stood still, it got my name on it! Lawn mower, bar b que pit, fence, hell I even tried the dog till my wife caught me Now it's sharpies and a steady hand.
Although that machine Dick has sounds intriguing........

Target pasters, white or brown - unobtrusive, easily scraped off and replaced, and permanently marking up something sounds like a better idea at the time than it generally turns out to be a while down the road . . . .

Most hobby or craft stores have them. You may have to take a few of them and make a master stencil out of them or do a few letters at a time, though.

I use nail polish in various bilious colors. "Waitress Red" for 357's, "Ghoulish Green" for the 45's, Sky Blue for the 40's, yada yada yada. I paint the calibers in big numbers on each can in case I go colorblind.
The rifle calibers are in white and yellow. You can read them from down the block. That way if I'm using my pistol to fight my way back to a rifle, I can tell which stack of ammo cans to head for.

I bought an Epson Label Printer. You can get different color tapes or clear tapes. It can print different fonts and different size letters. Not as large as a stencil.

+1
find them on Amazon for less then $20 sometimes and you can get different color and size tape. Self sticking and if it starts to come off you can just wrap it with clear packing tape and there forever almost. Plus you can use it to label anything works good for me..

How about .... wordpad already on your pc, your printer, and an xacto knife.
Add a misting of 3m 77 spray for a temporary adhesive, and you have a custom stencil to fit any need, be it ammo can or lettering on your car.

How about a 3D plastic printer to build custom labeled boxes to encapsulate your boxes? Prices are coming down.

On Fleabay last month I came across a listing for "Reloading bench storage containers, Universal". Yep, it was three coffee cans and the bid was around $8 plus shipping.

A roll of white duct tape and a black Sharpie pen solved my labeling of ammo cans. I can now grab the correct caliber of ammunition without having to open the can first!

You left off the part about unstacking the 4 cans above the one you want, and its always on the bottom. If anyone can figure out a way for the one you need to rise to the top, I'd be indebted to them, as I'm sure others would. The problem is more than just finding the right one.

Same here (mine is a Brother). Casio also makes them. Several price levels and feature levels to choose from The advantage is that the labels are easy to change when the can's mission changes . . .

I think defense distributed has a pre made draft for your printing pleasure.
I have thought about a 3d for various things to include plastic templates and stencils.
these things run at a snails pace, so that has to be taken into account as well.

I used those rubbery fridge magnets (like the real estate guys leave on your door), and adhesive numbers from Home Depot.
Cut to fit, total cost 1.98 ea.
