I have a older Dan Wesson stainless 1911. This is my baby and the most accurate 45 I own.
The rear slide serrations are not very sharp or deep. There is very little grip when I rack the slide especially if any oil or sweat.
The front ones are fine but I do not use them.

I checked a local sort of Gun Smith and he does not have the right size cutting bit. I e mailed Dan Wesson but their shop was destroyed by fire!

I would like to get this done but don't want to pay a lot for this muffler I have a lot of tools but no milling machine.

My other option is grip or skateboard tape.

I can tell you my experience with milling serations on the front end of a Colt Gov Model comp gun several years ago for a friend. I was using a 1/16"carbide endmill in a bridgeport and I broke about 4 of the mills before I got it done. The front of the slide is hardened about as hard as the rear because I used to install Bo-Mar and Wichita rear sights and I dont think a High speed end mill would cut it. I think they must be milled and then the slide heat treated. Yours could be done with a carbide cutter if find someone to do it. Jeff
