Default Gun Storage

If I'm storing a gun for an extended period of time is it better to store with slide open or closed and, if closed, cocked or uncocked? Don't know if it matters.
Thanks

I always store mine with the slide closed and uncocked and have been doing it that way for the last 65 years or so. No problems so far.
