Miracle On Ice
This one indeed made America proud.
Miracle On Ice (Feb 22, 1980) Lake Placid NY
A fantastic movie called (Miracle 2004) you don't even have to know the difference between a stick/puck to enjoy this.
In one of the most dramatic upsets in Olympic history, the underdog U.S. hockey team, made up of college players, defeats the four-time defending gold-medal winning Soviet team at the XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York. The Soviet squad, previously regarded as the finest in the world, fell to the youthful American team 4-3 before a frenzied crowd of 10,000 spectators. Two days later, the Americans defeated Finland 4-2 to clinch the hockey gold.

Best part about the whole thing? IT'S TRUE!!
I'll never forget listening to those games on the radio in EVERY store, restaurant, bar and car, or tuning in to watch the games at any unseemly hour. Every American was riveted to the heroic drama and one of the greatest moments of my life was cheering for those kids as they rode down University Avenue in Saint Paul Minnesota after they won it ALL!!
Herb Brooks was from Saint Paul and a few of those young men were Minnesotans, but we loved 'em all.

A great group of players, Boston University, Univ of Minnesota, Bowling Green, Univ of North Dakota, Univ of Wisconsin, Univ Minn-Duluth.
I taped the documentary I believe it was on HBO, maybe wrong but I have it. And I have seen the movie.
But I did watch it live on TV and absolutely went crazy.
May watch it later on tonight, even though I have watched many times it still moves me.

Movie came out when my kids were in elementary school. They obviously had no knowledge of the 1980 Olympics. A bunch of us (school friends and parents) went to see Miracle and I brought American flags for all of us to wave during the USSR game. Kids loved it.
Do you believe in miracles?? YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep your eyes open, it may appear again on cable, the actual documentary.

The game was played in the afternoon and ABC broadcasted it in primetime that night. Those of us that didn't know the score ahead of time were richly rewarded.

Stan, your absolutely correct, ABC delayed the broadcast, but I stayed away from the Radio and TV until the game started.
So it was live to me when I watched it.
To this day, I really can't think of a sports event that was more moving than when the kids brought down the Soviet machine.
